Kang Yi Meets with IEA Executive Director and Signs Memorandum of Understanding
On the morning of September 10, Kang Yi, Commissioner of the National Bureau of Statistics of China (NBS of China), met with a delegation led by Fatih Birol, Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA). The two sides signed the Memorandum of Understanding between the National Bureau of Statistics of China and the Secretariat of the International Energy Agency and exchanged views on deepening cooperation in energy statistics.
Commissioner Kang welcomed Executive Director Birol and his delegation. He noted that the NBS of China and the IEA have long maintained close and productive cooperation in areas including energy statistical methodologies, technical exchanges, capacity building, and data sharing, and that the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding would further strengthen the foundation for cooperation between the two sides in energy statistics. Commissioner Kang noted that China’s energy sector is currently undergoing profound changes. The NBS of China is ready to deepen exchanges and mutual learning with the IEA in the field of energy statistics and carry out practical cooperation in strengthening the alignment of existing statistical standards and methodologies, expanding cooperation on energy transition and green energy statistics, and advancing statistical capacity building. The NBS of China hopes to work with the IEA to build a globally compatible and interoperable energy statistics system and jointly contribute to the sustainable development of the global energy.
Executive Director Birol spoke highly of the achievements China has made in energy statistics. He introduced the IEA’s mandate and work and expressed his hope that, under the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding, the two sides would strengthen exchanges and cooperation in areas including the collection of high-quality energy data and capacity building in energy statistics, continue to improve international energy data services, and provide solid data support for the global energy transition.
Officials from the Administrative Office and the Department of Energy Statistics of the NBS of China attended the meeting.
