Kang Yi Meets with Delegation from the Statistics and Census Service of the Macao SAR Government
On the morning of July 16th, Kang Yi, Commissioner of the National Bureau of Statistics of China (NBS of China), met in Beijing with a delegation led by Pong Kai Fu, Director of the Statistics and Census Service of the Macao SAR Government.

Commissioner Kang welcomed Director Pong and his delegation. He noted that the NBS of China and the Statistics and Census Service of Macao have long maintained close cooperative relations and carried out many productive exchanges. At present, in accordance with the arrangements set out in the Outline of the 15th Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development of the People’s Republic of China, the NBS of China is systematically planning for statistical reform and development during the 15th Five-Year Plan period and is working to better support Chinese modernization through the modernization of statistical work. This year also marks the launch of Macao’s Third Five-Year Plan. The development goals set for areas such as appropriately diversified economic development, the development of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, and improvements in people’s well-being have placed higher demands on statistical work and at the same time opened up new space for statistical cooperation between the two sides. The NBS of China looks forward to deepening exchanges and cooperation with the Statistics and Census Service of Macao in areas including emerging industries, scientific and technological innovation, and people’s well-being, with a view to jointly enhancing the capacity and quality of statistical services in supporting economic and social development.
Director Pong expressed appreciation for the NBS of China’s longstanding support for the development of statistical work in Macao. He hoped that the two sides could strengthen exchanges of experience in areas such as the alignment of statistical systems and rules, the application of big data and administrative data, the digital economy, and labor statistics. He also hoped for broader cooperation in personnel training, thematic research, data utilization, and other fields,, so as to contribute Macao’s strength to the modernization of China’s statistical work.
Lei Xiaowu, Deputy Commissioner of the NBS of China, attended the meeting and chaired the subsequent exchange session. Liu Decheng, Director-General of the Economic Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR, as well as officials from the Administrative Office, the Office of Statistical Law Enforcement and Supervision, the Department of Statistical Design and Management, the Department of Population and Employment Statistics, the Department of Social, Science and Technology, and Cultural Statistics, the Department of Service Statistics, the Data Management Center, and the Statistical Library and Information Service of the NBS of China also attended relevant activities.
