Kang Yi Meets with Director-General of Eurostat and Signs the Administrative Arrangement on Statistical Cooperation
On the morning of September 26th, Mr. Kang Yi, commissioner of the National Bureau of Statistics of China (NBS), met with the delegation headed by Ms. Mariana Kotzeva, director-general of Eurostat. The two sides signed the Administrative Arrangement on Statistical Cooperation between the National Bureau of Statistics of People’s Republic of China and Eurostat (the Administrative Arrangement), and exchanged opinions on deepening cooperation in the future.
Mr. Kang Yi extended a warm welcome to Ms. Mariana Kotzeva and the Delegation, and briefed them on key reform and innovation practices in the statistical work of the Chinese government in recent years. He said that the Administrative Arrangement comes at a time of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and the European Union, and its signing preserves the exchange and cooperation channel for the statistical work and is also an important part in enhancing the China-EU relationship. He also emphasized that, NBS is willing to work with Eurostat in strengthening collaboration and engaging in joint exploration within the framework of the Administrative Agreement, and forge pragmatic cooperation on key areas and cutting-edge topics such as macroeconomic statistics, application of new data sources, energy statistics, and science, technology and innovation (STI) statistics, to continuously improve the statistical work of China and the EU and provide robust statistical support for their economic and social development.
Ms. Mariana Kotzeva spoke highly of the statistical innovation achievements of the Chinese government and recognized the importance of enhancing experience sharing and joint research between statistical institutions of the EU and China. She said that the signing marks the beginning of a new chapter for the EU-China statistical cooperation. Eurostat looks forward to fostering mutual learning and exchanges with the NBS in multiple areas, working together to address challenges and promoting the progress of global statistics.
The participants in the meeting also included Lu Shan, Chief Methodologist, Fu Linghui, Chief Economist, and officials of the Administrative Office (Department of International Cooperation) of the NBS.
