Kang Yi Met with He Xuming,President of International Statistical Institute

On October 17, Kang Yi, Commissioner of the National Bureau of Statistics of China (NBS of China) and President of the National Statistical Society of China (NSSC) met with He Xuming, President of International Statistical Institute (ISI). The two sides exchanged opinions on further promoting the development of statistical disciplines and enhancing cooperation and exchanges in statistics. Lin Tao, Deputy Commissioner of NBS of China and Executive Vice President of NSSC attended the meeting.


Kang Yi extended a warm welcome to Mr. He Xuming on his visit, and fully affirmed the important role played by the ISI in promoting the development of statistical disciplines and fostering a platform for academic exchanges in statistics. Kang Yi noted that facing the new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial revolution, as well as the trend of booming digital economy, the NBS of China is now vigorously promoting the building of smart statistics. By leveraging electronic statistical ledgers, the NBS of China aims to achieve comprehensive digital transformation and empowerment throughout the entire statistical process concerning statistical collection, processing, and analysis, focusing on realizing the digitization of statistical foundation, the scientization of statistical process, and the intellectualization of statistical management. Kang Yi expressed the hope that President He Xuming and the ISI could make insightful proposals for China’s statistical reform and innovation. The NBS of China will also share the achievements of China’s reform and innovation with greater sincerity and an opener attitude to contribute to the international statistical community with practical references.

Mr. He Xuming thanked the NBS of China for its long-term support to the ISI. He noted that in recent years, China has made remarkable progress in statistical reform and development, showcasing distinctive achievements in various professional fields. The ISI will further deepen mutually beneficial cooperation with the NBS of China and the NSSC in terms of strengthening basic theoretical research on statistics, training statistical professionals and enhancing statistical capacity.

After the meeting, Mr. He Xuming delivered an academic lecture on the topic of “Selected Topics on AI for Official Statistics” to cadres and staffs of the NBS of China, and had a symposium with experts from the NSSC on boosting development of statistical disciplines.
