Kang Yi Met with the Delegation of the United Nations Statistics Division
On the morning of April 22, Mr. Kang Yi, Commissioner of the National Bureau of Statistics of China (NBS of China), met with delegation led by Mr. Stefan Schweinfest, Director of the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD), Mr. Lu Haitian, Head of the Capacity Development Programme Management Office (CDPMO) of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), and Ms. Ma Ming, Deputy Director of the United Nations Global Geospatial Knowledge and Innovation Centre (UN-GGKIC). The two sides exchanged opinions on the status quo and future development of the United Nations Global Platform for Big Data China Hub (hereinafter referred to as Regional Hub in China), and the execution of the third phase of UN-China Trust Fund Project on Statistical Capacity Development. Mr. Lin Tao, Deputy Commissioner of the NBS of China attended the meeting.
Commissioner Kang Yi welcomed the delegation led by Mr. Stefan Schweinfest, and highly commended the long-term friendly cooperation between DESA and NBS of China as well as fruitful accomplishments reached, and thanked DESA for its great supports in successfully hosting the Fourth United Nations World Data Forum, executing the third phase of the UN-China Trust Fund Project on Statistical Capacity Development, and assisting Regional Hub in China to assume the function of Global Hub. Mr. Kang Yi said that under the current circumstance that the global governance system is facing multiple challenges, accurate and comprehensive statistical data plays a crucial role in optimizing the global governance system. NBS of China is willing to continuously make more contributions to the lasting improvement of global statistical capability through the future development of the Regional Hub in China and the effective execution of the Trust Fund project.
Mr. Schweinfest commended accomplishments achieved through China’s statistical reform and development and expressed willingness of DESA to continuously conduct cooperation and exchange with the NBS of China across more areas and in greater depth. He is fully confident in the further development of the Regional Hub in China and expect outstanding statisticians from NBS of China to share more China’s experience with the international statistical community.
During the visit, the delegation led by Mr. Schweinfest also paid a visit to the Regional Hub in China and had an on-site discussion with Mao Shengyong, Deputy Commissioner of the NBS of China.
