Mr. Ma Jiantang was Elected as the Vice-Chairperson of the UNESCAP Committee on Statistics

The First Meeting of United Nations ESCAP Committee on Statistics was held on February 4-6, 2009, in Bangkok, Thailand. The Chinese delegation headed by Mr. Ma Jiantang, Commissioner of NBS, and more than 30 delegations of ESCAP’s Committee on Statistics, attended meeting. 

Mr. Ma Jiantang was elected as the Vice-Chairperson of the ESCAP Committee on Statistics on the opening day. During the meeting, Mr. Ma Jiantang gave a speech on China's statistical work, terms of reference, technical cooperation, and development planning of Asia-Pacific Region on Statistics, China's situation of gender statistics, and other relevant contents. In addition, Mr. Ma Jiantang also met with Messrs. Shigeru Mochida, Acting Executive Secretary of UNESCAP, and Paul Cheung, Director of UNSD, and exchanged views on between China and the ESCAP Statistics, implemented with the United Nations Trust Fund Project Statistics matters with them, respectively.

Messrs. Diao Mingsheng, China’s Representative of ESCAP, Deputy Head of the Delegation, Du Weiqun, Director-General, Department of International Cooperation, and Xian Zude, Director-General, Department of Statistical Design and management of NBS, as the members of the Delegation.
