According to the sampling survey of early rice, the sown area, yield per unit area and total output of early rice in China for 2025 are estimated as follows:

I. The total sown area of early rice nationwide recorded 4,742.9 thousand hectares (71.143 million mu), a decrease of 12.0 thousand hectares (179,000 mu) or 0.3 percent compared to 2024.

II. The yield per unit area of early rice nationwide stood at 6,011.9 kg / ha (400.8 kg / mu), an increase of 86.5 kg / ha (5.8 kg / mu) or 1.5 percent compared to 2024.

III. The total output of early rice nationwide was 28.513 million tons (57.03 billion jin), an increase of 339,000 tons (680 million jin) or 1.2 percent compared to 2024.

Explanation on the Output Survey of Early Rice

The data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) of China on the early rice output were estimated from the sample survey taking the province as the total population.

1. Scope of Survey

The early rice yield data is collected through sample surveys and on-site measurements conducted in over 200 selected counties (cities), which are organized by the Survey Organizations of the NBS of China.

2. Survey Sample

The sample survey for the yield of early rice is composed of a sample survey for the sown area and a sample survey for the yield per unit area.

The sample survey on early rice sown areas is conducted in more than 3,000 sample land segments selected in national survey counties (cities). The early rice sown area at province level is estimated based on the basic survey data.

The sample survey on yield per unit area of early rice is performed in selected survey plots of national survey counties (cities). More than 20,000 small sample plots from almost 7,000 sample land segments are selected for on-site measurement to estimate the provincial average yield per unit area of early rice.

3. Methods for Yield Estimation

The on-site measurement refers to that grass-root surveyors perform field estimation and sequencing on early rice planting plots according to the Statistical Reporting System on Agriculture, Forestry, Animal Husbandry and Fishery before the harvesting of early rice. They also sample and mark a certain amount of survey plots. County-level survey team members or auxiliary surveyors then set out to harvest early rice during the harvest season, estimating the yield per unit area of the selected plots through threshing, drying, measuring water and impurity, weighing, and other processes. Subsequently, provincial-level survey teams will calculate the provincial average yield per unit area according to the data of the selected plots.

The yield of early rice is obtained by multiplying the sown area and the yield per unit area in the sample survey.
