Added Value of China's Agriculture and Related Industries Takes up 16.24% of GDP in 2022

According to accounting, in 2022, the added value of agriculture and related industries in China came in at 19,569.2 billion yuan, accounting for 16.24 percent of the country's gross domestic product (GDP), an increase of 0.19 percentage point over the previous year.

 

In terms of three industries, among the added value of agriculture and related industries, the added value of primary, secondary and tertiary industries accounted for 45.1, 29.2 and 25.7 percent respectively.  The added value of primary industry was the largest and accounted for the highest.

 

From the perspective of agriculture and related industries, the added value scale of agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery, processing and manufacturing of edible agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery products, and agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery and related product circulation services ranked the top three, accounting for 47.3, 20.7 and 14.1 percent of the added value of agriculture and related industries respectively.

1. Explanatory Notes

 

Agriculture and related industries refer to agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery, as well as the secondary and tertiary industries whose products are used by agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery, directly use agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery products and rely on agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery resources, including all economic activities formed by agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery production, processing, manufacturing, circulation, service and other links.

 

The added value of agriculture and related industries refers to the added value created by the production activities of agriculture and related industries in a certain period of time by all permanent resident units in China.

 

Resident units refer to economic units with economic interest centers within China's economic territory.

 

Production refers to the activity of creating new output of goods and services by using factors such as labor and capital under the control and management of institutional units.

 

2. Accounting Classification

 

The accounting classification of agriculture and related industries adopts the Statistical Classification of Agriculture and Related Industries (2020).  The Statistical Classification of Agriculture and Related Industries (2020) is a derivative classification of the Industrial Classification for National Economic Activities (GB/T4754-2017), which is a re-classification of activities in line with the characteristics of agriculture and related industries in the Industrial Classification for National Economic Activities (GB / T 4754-2017).

 

3. Accounting Method and Data Source

 

The accounting for the added value of agriculture and related industries shall be conducted in the production approach and the income approach.

 

The data required for accounting mainly comes from three parts. First, the national economic census data; Second, the routine statistical data of the National Bureau of Statistics of China, including annual industry data of national economic accounting and annual statistical reports of relevant specialties; Third, administrative data, such as Department Statistics of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Areas and statistics of trade associations.
