Added Value of China's Cultural and Related Sectors Takes up 4.46% of GDP in 2022

According to accounting, the added value of national cultural and related sectors in 2022 was 5,378.2 billion yuan, an increase of 2.7 percent over the previous year (not excluding price factors), accounting for 4.46 percent of the country's gross domestic product (GDP), a decrease of 0.1 percentage point over the previous year.

 

By sector, in 2022, the added value of cultural services was 3,516.6 billion yuan, accounting for 65.4 percent of the added value of cultural and related sectors, an increase of 1.4 percentage points over the previous year; the added value of cultural manufacturing was 1,316.5 billion yuan, accounting for 24.5 percent, a decrease of 1.6 percentage points over the previous year; the added value of cultural wholesale and retail was 545.1 billion yuan, accounting for 10.1 percent, an increase of 0.2 percentage point over the previous year.

 

By field, in 2022, the added value of the core fields of culture was 3,829.0 billion yuan, accounting for 71.2 percent of the added value of culture and related industries; the added value of cultural related fields was 1,549.2 billion yuan, accounting for 28.8 percent.

I. Explanatory Notes

 

Cultural and related sectors refer to the collection of production activities that provide cultural products and cultural related products for the public.

 

The added value of cultural and related sectors refers to the added value created by the production activities of cultural and related sectors in a certain period of time by all permanent resident units in a country.

 

The term "resident unit" refers to an economic unit with a center of economic interests in China's economic territory.

 

Production refers to the activities of creating new output of goods and services by using labor, capital, goods and services input under the control and organization of institutional units.

 

II. Accounting Scope and Classification

 

The accounting scope of the added value of cultural and related sectors includes all culture and related activities specified in Classification of Culture and Related Industries (2018).

 

According to industry categories, cultural and related sectors are divided into cultural manufacturing, cultural wholesale and retail and cultural services. According to the nature of activities, cultural and related sectors are divided into two parts: one is the "cultural core fields", which refers to the production activities of cultural products (including goods and services) such as creation, manufacturing, dissemination and display, which take culture as the core content and directly meet people's spiritual needs;

 

III. Accounting Method and Data Source

 

The added value of cultural and related sectors is calculated in the income approach, and the data required for accounting are from the national economic census data, national economic accounting data, statistical data of cultural and related sectors, etc.
