The Business Income of National Cultural and Related Industrial Enterprises Above Designated in the First Three Quarters of 2022
According to a survey of 68000 cultural and related industrial enterprises (Hereinafter referred to as "cultural enterprises") above designated size nationwide, in the first three quarters of 2022, the cultural enterprises achieved an operating revenue of 8,645.9 billion yuan, which was 1.4 percent higher than the same period last year (see Note 2 for details)[1], 1.1 percentage points faster than the first half year in growth rate.
In terms of business types, the 16 industry categories with obvious characteristics of new cultural business types[2] achieved an operating income of 3,084.1 billion yuan, an increase of 3.9 percent over the same period last year, 2.5 percentage points faster than all cultural enterprises above designated size.
In terms of industry category, the operating revenue of news and information services was 1,021.5 billion yuan, an increase of 2.4 percent over the same period last year; content creation and production reached 1,863.2 billion yuan, an increase of 4.5 percent; creative design services were 1,350.8 billion yuan, down 1.6 percent; cultural communication channels reached 950.3 billion yuan, up 0.5 percent; cultural investment and operation amounted to 33.4 billion yuan, up 2.0 percent; cultural, entertainment and leisure services were 81.2 billion yuan, down 14.1 percent; cultural auxiliary production and intermediary services amounted to 1,177 billion yuan, up 0.6 percent; the production of cultural equipment was 494.1 billion yuan, an increase of 4.7 percent; the production of cultural consumption terminals was 1,674.4 billion yuan, up 1.2 percent.
In terms of industrial types, the operating revenue of cultural manufacturing industry was 3,217.1 billion yuan, an increase of 3.0 percent over the same period last year; the cultural wholesale and retail industry was 1,412.4 billion yuan, up 0.5 percent; cultural related fields reached 4,016.4 billion yuan, an increase of 0.5 percent.
In terms of areas, the operating revenue of the core area of culture[3] was 5,300.4 billion yuan, an increase of 1.4 percent over the same period last year; cultural related fields reached 3,345.4 billion yuan, an increase of 1.5 percent.
In terms of sub regions, the eastern region achieved an operating income of 6,570.8 billion yuan, an increase of 0.4 percent over the same period last year; the central region was 1,263 billion yuan, an increase of 8.4 percent; the western region was 739.4 billion yuan, down 0.3 percent; and the northeast region was 72.7 billion yuan, down 0.1 percent.

I. Explanatory Notes
Culture and related industries refer to the collection of production activities that provide cultural products and cultural related products for the public. According to the Classification of Culture and Related Industries (2018), culture and related industries include nine categories: news and information services, content creation and production, creative design services, cultural communication channels, cultural investment and operation, cultural entertainment and leisure services, cultural auxiliary production and intermediary services, cultural equipment production and cultural consumption terminal production.
Business income refers to the sum of "main business income" and "other business income".
II. Statistical Coverage
The statistical scope of cultural and related industries above designated size is industrial enterprises within the industry scope specified in The Classification of Cultural and Related Industries (2018) with an annual main business income of 20 million yuan or more; wholesale enterprises with annual main business income of 20 million yuan or above or retail enterprises with annual main business income of 5 million yuan or above; service enterprises with an annual operating income of 10 million yuan or more, of which the transportation, warehousing and postal services, information transmission, software and information technology services, water conservancy, environment and public facilities management with annual business income of 20 million yuan, and residential services, repair and other services, culture, sports and entertainment with annual business income of 5 million yuan or above.
As the range of enterprises in culture and related industries above designated size changes every year, in order to ensure that the data of this year are comparable with that of the previous year, the same period number used to calculate the year-on-year growth rate of indicators such as the operating income of enterprises in culture and related industries above designated size should be consistent with the statistical range of enterprises in this period, and there is a difference in caliber from the data published last year. The main reason is that every year, some enterprises that meet the standards above scale are included in the scope of investigation. At the same time, some enterprises withdraw from the scope of investigation due to their smaller scale, as well as the impact of new production, bankruptcy and injection (suspension) enterprises.
III. Survey Method
Every quarter, the cultural and related industrial legal entities above designated size shall be identified and summarized according to the data obtained from the comprehensive survey of Industrial enterprises above designated size, wholesale and retail enterprises above designated size and service enterprises above designated size on the national statistical online direct reporting platform.

V. Division on Eastern, Central, Western and Northeastern Regions
The eastern region includes 10 provinces (cities) including Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian, Shandong, Guangdong and Hainan; The central region includes six provinces: Shanxi, Anhui, Jiangxi, Henan, Hubei and Hunan; The western region includes 12 provinces (cities and autonomous regions) Inner Mongolia, Guangxi, Chongqing, Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan, Tibet, Shaanxi, Gansu, Qinghai, Ningxia and Xinjiang; Northeast China includes 3 provinces:Liaoning, Jilin and Heilongjiang.
