In May, the production of raw coal, crude oil and natural gas in industries above designated size increased steadily, and the power production decreased year-on-year. Compared with April, the production of raw coal, crude oil and natural gas remained stable, and the decline in power production narrowed.

I. Raw Coal, Crude Oil and Natural Gas Production and Relevant Information

Raw coal production maintained a rapid growth, and imports turned from increase to decrease. With the in-depth promotion of the policy of maintaining supply and price of coal, raw coal production continued to maintain rapid growth. In May, 370million tons of raw coal were produced, a year-on-year increase of 10.3 percent, 0.4 percentage point slower than that of the previous month, and the average daily output was 11.87 million tons. The imported coal was 20.55 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 2.3 percent and an increase of 8.5 percent in last month.

From January to May, 1.81 billion tons of raw coal were produced, a year-on-year increase of 10.4 percent. 95.95 million tons of coal were imported, a year-on-year decrease of 13.6 percent.

Crude oil production was stable and imports accelerated. In May, it produced 17.57 million tons of crude oil, a year-on-year increase of 3.6 percent, a slowdown of 0.4 percentage point over the previous month, and an average daily output of 567,000 tons. The imported crude oil was 45.82 million tons, up 11.8 percent year-on-year, 5.2 percentage points faster than that of the previous month.

From January to May, 85.69 million tons of crude oil were produced, a year-on-year increase of 4.1 percent. The imported crude oil was 216.71 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 1.7 percent.

Crude oil processing volume continued to decline. In May, 53.92 million tons of crude oil were processed, a year-on-year decrease of 10.9 percent, an increase of 0.4 percentage point over the previous month, with an average daily processing of 1.739 million tons. From January to May, 277.16 million tons of crude oil were processed, a year-on-year decrease of 5.3 percent.

Natural gas production remained stable and import decline narrowed. In May, 17.7 billion cubic meters of natural gas was produced, a year-on-year increase of 4.9 percent, 0.2 percentage point faster than that of the previous month, and the average daily output was 570 million cubic meters. The import of natural gas was 9.07 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 12.1 percent, 7.5 percentage points narrower than that of the previous month.

From January to May, 92.4 billion cubic meters of natural gas were produced, up 5.8 percent year on year. The imported natural gas was 44.91 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 9.3 percent.

II. Electric Power Production

The decline in electricity production narrowed. In May, the power generation was 641 billion kwh, a year-on-year decrease of 3.3 percent, a decrease of 1.0 percentage point compared with the previous month, and the average daily power generation was 20.68 billion kwh. From January to May, power generation reached 3.2 trillion kwh, an increase of 0.5 percent year on year.

In terms of varieties, in May, the decline of thermal power narrowed, the growth of hydropower and nuclear power accelerated, wind power turned from increase to decrease, and the growth of solar power slowed down. Among them, thermal power decreased by 10.9 percent year-on-year, 0.9 percentage point lower than that of the previous month; hydropower increased by 26.7 percent, 9.3 percentage points faster than that of the previous month; nuclear power increased by 1.3 percent, 0.4 percentage point faster than the previous month; wind power decreased by 0.7 percent and increased by 14.5 percent in last month; solar power generation increased by 8.3 percent, 16.6 percentage points slower than the previous month.

Annotations:

1. Explanatory Notes

Average daily product output: It is calculated by dividing the total output of Industrial Enterprises above the designated size announced in that month by the calendar days of that month.

2. Statistical Coverage

The statistical caliber of the output data in the report is above the designated size of industry, and the statistical scope is industrial enterprises with annual main business income of more than 20 million yuan.

Because the scope of Industrial Enterprises above the designated size changes every year, in order to ensure that this year's data is comparable with the previous year's, the same period used to calculate the growth rate of various indicators such as product output is consistent with the statistical scope of enterprises in this period, and there is a caliber difference between the data released last year.

3. Data Source

Import data comes from the General Administration of Customs, of which the data in April 2022 is the express data.

4. Conversion relationship of natural gas units: 1 ton is equal to 1380 cubic meters.
