Entrepreneur Confidence Index Kept Steady Growth in the First Quarter

According to the results of nationwide survey on 19,500 all types of enterprises conducted by National Bureau of Statistics of China, it showed that entrepreneur confidence index (ECI) gained 140.6 in the first quarter, which remain the general level with the previous quarter. The survey indicated that 56.0 percent of the entrepreneurs are optimism in the overall operation status of the industry in 2008; 61.1 percent of the entrepreneurs believe that production and operations of enterprises in 2008 maintain well, which shows that the majority of entrepreneurs remain good confidence and expectations on the current and future development of macroeconomic.

The ECIs for construction, traffic, transport, storage and post, hotels and catering services was 145.0, 138.6, 162.2, and 137.6, up 6.5, 1.4, 6.8, and 3.6 points respectively; that of industry, wholesale and retail trades, social services was 138.4, 147.2, and 139.5 respectively, which remain the general level of previous quarter; that of real estate stood at 131.1, declined 6.8 points.

The ECIs of limited liability enterprises, foreign funded enterprises, and enterprises with funds form Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan respectively was 139.4 and 147.7, up 1.4 and 2.9 points with previous quarter; that of state-owned enterprises, collective-owned enterprises, joint ownership enterprises, and share-holding corporation limited was 139.4, 119.1, 121.9, and 146.0 respectively, which remained the general level of previous quarter.

The ECIs of medium and large sized enterprises was 155.1 and 131.6 points respectively, remained the general level of previous quarter; while that of small sized enterprises stood at 124.1, climbing 2.4 points compared with the previous quarter. Large sized enterprises have stronger confidence in the development of macroeconomic.

The ECIs of eastern, central and western regions took little change with 140.9, 139.7, and 140.9 respectively, remain the general level than the previous quarter; the ECIs of eastern, central and western regions kept stable which stood at about 140.0 in five consecutive quarters.
