A Slight Decline for Entrepreneur Confidence Index in the Fourth Quarter 2004

In the fourth quarter 2004, the Enterpreneur Confidence Index (ECI) was 130.8, down by 1.7 and 2.9 percentage points compared with the third quarter this year and the same period of the previous year respectively. But it still maintained at the high level of more than 130. It indicates that most enterpreneurs are holding good confidence and expectation to the current and future macroeconomic development. 

Looking at by industry, ECI in mining and real estate sector got a perch advance. In the fourth quarter, the ECI for these two sectors were 171.1 and 141.7, up by 5.3 and 2.6 percentage points over the third quarter respectively. The ECI for manufacturing, construction, transportation, storage and post service, information transmission, computer service and software, hotel and catering service, were 128.8, 124.9, 129.5, 153.5, and 124.8 respectively, almost the same as the third quarter. The ECI for production and supply of electric power, gas and water, whole sale and retail, and social services sectors, were 139.6, 122.6 and 125.1, down by 8.6, 7.5 and 4.4 percentage points over the third quarter respectively  

Looking at by type of business register, the ECI for state, private and inner founded enterprises keeps calm. In the fourth quarter, the ECI for these sectors were 129,9, 123.3 and 122.5 respsectively, almost the same as the third quarter. The ECI for affiliated enterprises was 124.7, up by 16.0 percentage point over the third quarter. The ECI for collective enterprises, share-holding and cooperative enterprises, limited liability companies, stock ltd. companies, and foreign founded enterprises and enterprises invested by compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, were 112.7, 118.5, 129.9, 142.6, and 136.0, down by 1.9, 4.3, 3.4, 2.1 and 1.2 percentage points over the third quarter respctively. 

Looking at by size of enterprises, the ECIs for large, medium and small enterprises had a slight decline. In the fourth quarter, the ECIs for large, medium and small enterprises were 147.7, 122.6 and 113.5, down by 2.9, 0.9 and 1.2 percentage points respectively.
