Retail sales rose by 8.8% in August
The total volume of retail sales of social consumer goods in August rose by 8.8% compared with the same period of last year
In August, the total volume of retail sales of social consumer goods was RMB 314.4 billions, a rise of 8.8% compared with the same month of last year.
In view of regions, the retail sales of consumer goods in urban regions was RMB 201.5 billions, a rise of 9.9% compared with the same period of last year; while that in counties or below counties was RMB 112.9 billion, a rise of 6.9%.
In view of trades, the retails sales of wholesale and retail trade was RMB 213.1 billions, a rise of 9.3% compared with the same period of last year; that of the food industry was RMB 40.2 billions, a rise of 16.5%; and that of other trades was RMB 61.1 billions, a rise of 2.7%.
Commodity retail of wholesale and retail trade above norm keeps a leading growth rate. Food products rose by 15.3%, clothes products rose by 15.2% and commodity for use rose by 24.6%.
Main conditions on consumer goods market in August:
1. "Students' consumption" is a luminescent spot on the market in August. With the promotion of consumption level of citizens, the level of students' consumption is being upgraded constantly, which is mainly shown as follows: firstly, after the results of entrance examinations for colleges and for senior middle schools come out, congratulations between schoolmates, relatives and friends and appreciations expressed to teachers are mostly done at hotels or restaurants, which drives the consumption on food market, gift market and entertainment market. The second is the preparation of consumer goods for study and life. More students are recruited in all quarters this year, which enlarges the scale of students' consumption, and supplies for students are tending to be top grade, the demand of computers, mobile phones, electronic dictionaries is high besides articles of daily use. The third is that the vocational tourism, meetings and physical fitness activities reach climax in August, which drives the distribution of related products.
2. The sales promotion of shops enables the lasting activeness of the consumer goods market. Various forms of sales promotion ensure the activeness on electro-communication instrument, household electrical appliances as well as automobile markets. Seen from the retail data of goods of wholesale and retail trade industry above norm in August, the growth rate of these goods reached the peach in recent years. At the same time,the predominance of brand effect and scale effect during market competitions is shown clearly, the marketing of costume, toiletries and commodities takes the most in department stores, while large chain stores, specialty shops or stores have decisive impact on the marketing on the telecom, household electrical appliances and automobile markets. This new market competition structure is being recognized by consumers when fakes are difficult to control, which promotes the marketing growth forcefully.
3. "Season change marketing" adds colors to the consumer goods market and infuses energy to the market. The August is a time for clothes changing, and all shopping centers grasped this business opportunity to stimulate the purchase appetite of blue collars and to enlarge goods marketing by offering discounts and by interest concessions. In August, the clothes retail of wholesale and retail trade above norm grew by 17.1%,2.9 percentage points higher than the same period of last year; the retail of shoes and caps rose by 16%,6 percentage points higher than the same period of last year.
