Energy Production in December 2022

In December, the production of raw coal, crude oil, natural gas and electric power of industries above designated size kept a year-on-year growth. Compared with November, the growth rate of raw coal, crude oil and natural gas was slowed down, and electric power accelerated.

I. Raw Coal, Crude Oil and Natural Gas Production and Relevant Information

The growth rate of raw coal production was slightly slowed down, and the decrease of import was narrowed. In December, 400 million tons of raw coal were produced, a year-on-year increase of 2.4 percent, 0.7 percentage point lower than that of the previous month, and the average daily output was 12.99 million tons. The import of coal was 30.91 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 0.1 percent, a decrease of 7.7 percentage points from the previous month.

In 2022, 4.5 billion tons of raw coal were produced, a year-on-year increase of 9.0 percent. The imported coal was 290 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 9.2 percent.

The growth rate of crude oil production maintained stable, and the growth rate of import was slowed down. In December, it produced 16.87 million tons of crude oil, a year-on-year increase of 2.5 percent, 0.4 percentage point slower than the previous month, and the average daily output was 544,000 tons. The import of coal was 48.07 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 4.2 percent, 7.6 percentage points slower than the previous month.

In 2022, it produced 204.67 million tons of crude oil, a year-on-year increase of 2.9 percent. The import of crude oil was 508.28 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 0.9 percent.

The growth of crude oil processing volume was accelerated. In December, 59.88 million tons of crude oil were processed, a year-on-year increase of 2.5 percent, 2.2 percentage point faster than that of the previous month, and the average daily processing was 1.932 million tons. In 2022, 675.9 million tons of crude oil were processed, a year-on-year decrease of 3.4 percent.

The growth rate of natural gas production was slowed, and the decrease in imports was enlarged. In December, it produced 20.4 billion cubic meters of natural gas, a year-on-year increase of 6.5 percent, 2.1 percentage points slower than last month, and the average daily output was 660 million cubic meters. The import of natural gas was 10.28 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 11.8 percent, a decrease of 9.0 percentage points enlarged from the previous month.

In 2022, 217.8 billion cubic meters of natural gas were produced, a year-on-year increase of 6.4 percent. The imported natural gas was 109.25 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 9.9 percent.

II. Electric Power Production

The growth rate of power production was accelerated. In December, the power generation was 757.9 billion kwh, a year-on-year increase of 3.0 percent, an increase of 2.9 percentage points over the previous month, and the average daily power generation was 24.45 billion kwh. In 2022, the power generation was 8.4 trillion kwh, a year-on-year increase of 2.2 percent.

From the perspective of varieties, in December, the growth of thermal power was flat, hydropower changed from decreasing to increasing, the growth of nuclear power slowed down, and the growth of wind power and solar power accelerated. Among them, thermal power increased by 1.3 percent year-on-year, 0.1 percentage points slower than last month; hydropower increased by 3.6 percent and decreased by 14.2 percent last month; nuclear power increased by 6.6 percent, 4.5 percentage points slower than last month. Wind power increased by 15.4 percent, 9.7 percentage points faster than last month; solar power generation increased by 3.2 percent, 3.2 percentage points faster than last month.

Because the scope of Industrial Enterprises above the designated size changes every year, in order to ensure that this year's data is comparable with the previous year's, the same period used to calculate the growth rate of various indicators such as product output is consistent with the statistical scope of enterprises in this period, and there is a caliber difference between the data released last year.
