Energy Production in August 2022
In August, the production of raw coal, natural gas and electric power of industries above designated size kept growth, the production of crude oil decreased year-on-year. Compared with July, the growth rate of the production of raw coal and natural gas slowed down, the production of crude oil has changed from increasing to decreasing, and the power production accelerated.
I. Raw Coal, Crude Oil and Natural Gas Production and Relevant Information
The growth rate of raw coal production maintained stable, and the import changed from decreasing to increasing. In August, 370 million tons of raw coal were produced, basically the same as last month, a year-on-year increase of 8.1 percent, 8.0 percentage point slower than that of the previous month, and the average daily output was 11.95 million tons. The import of coal was 29.46 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 5.0 percent, and a decrease of 21.8 percent in the previous month.
From January to August, 2.93 billion tons of raw coal were produced, a year-on-year increase of 11.0 percent. The imported coal was 167.98 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 14.9 percent.
Crude oil production decreased slightly, and the decrease in imports maintained. In August, it produced 16.94 million tons of crude oil, a year-on-year decrease of 0.2 percent, an increase of 3.0 percent in the previous month, and the average daily output was 546,000 tons. Imported crude oil was 40.35 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 9.4 percent, and 0.1 percentage points lower than last month.
From January to August, it produced 136.94 million tons of crude oil, a year-on-year increase of 3.2 percent. The import of crude oil was 330.18 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 4.7 percent.
The decrease in crude oil processing volume narrowed. In August, 53.66 million tons of crude oil were processed, a year-on-year decrease of 6.5 percent, 2.3 percentage point lower than that of the previous month, and the average daily processing was 1.731 million tons. From January to August, 434.89 million tons of crude oil were processed, a year-on-year decrease of 6.3 percent.
The growth rate of natural gas production was slowed, and the decrease in imports was enlarged. In August, it produced 17 billion cubic meters of natural gas, a year-on-year increase of 6.3 percent, 1.9 percentage points slower than last month, and the average daily output was 550 million cubic meters. The import of natural gas was 8.85 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 15.2 percent, and a decrease of 9.1 percentage points enlarged from the previous month.
From January to August, 143.7 billion cubic meters of natural gas were produced, a year-on-year increase of 5.5 percent. The imported natural gas was 71.05 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 10.2 percent.
II. Electric Power Production
The growth rate of power production was accelerated. In August, the power generation was 824.8 billion kwh, a year-on-year increase of 9.9 percent, an increase of 5.4 percentage points over the previous month, and the average daily power generation was 26.61 billion kwh. From January to August, the power generation was 5.6 trillion kwh, a year-on-year increase of 2.5 percent.
From the perspective of varieties, in August, thermal power and wind power accelerated, the growth of solar power slowed down, the growth of hydropower decreased year-on-year, and the decrease of nuclear power narrowed. Among them, thermal power increased by 14.8 percent year-on-year, 9.5 percentage points faster than last month; wind power increased by 28.2 percent, 22.5 percentage points faster than last month; solar power generation increased by 10.9 percent, 2.1 percentage points slower than last month. hydropower decreased by 11.0 percent and increased by 2.4 percent last month; nuclear power decreased by 0.6 percent, 2.7 percentage points lower than last month;
