In March, the production of major energy products of industries above designated size increased to varying degrees. Compared with January to February, the growth rate of raw coal production accelerated, crude oil and natural gas production remained stable, power production was basically stable, and hydropower, wind power and solar power generation increased rapidly.

I. Raw Coal, Crude Oil and Natural Gas Production and Relevant Information

Raw coal production increased rapidly and imports fell sharply. Since March, the policy of increasing coal production and supply has been strengthened continuously, and the main coal producing provinces and regions have made every effort to tap the potential and expand capacity and supply. In March, 396 million tons of raw coal were produced, with a year-on-year increase of 14.8, 4.5 percentage points faster than that from January to February, and the average daily output was 12.77 million tons. Imported coal was 16.42 million tons, down 39.9 percent year-on-year, 25.9 percentage points higher than that from January to February.

In the first quarter, 1.08 billion tons of raw coal were produced, a year-on-year increase of 10.3 percent. 51.81 million tons of coal were imported, a year-on-year decrease of 24.2 percent

Crude oil production increased steadily and the decline in imports expanded. In March, 17.71 million tons of crude oil were produced, with a year-on-year increase of 3.9 percent. The growth rate was 0.7 percentage point lower than that from January to February, and the average daily output was 571,000 tons. Imported crude oil was 42.71 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 14.0 percent, an increase of 9.1 percentage points over January to February.

In the first quarter, 51.19 million tons of crude oil were produced, a year-on-year increase of 4.4 percent. Imported crude oil was 127.85 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 8.1 percent.

Crude oil processing volume decreased slightly. In March, 58.59 million tons of crude oil were processed, a year-on-year decrease of 2.0 percent, with the decrease rate of 0.9 percentage point higher over January to February, with an average daily processing of 1.89 million tons. In the first quarter, 171.44 million tons of crude oil were processed, a year-on-year decrease of 1.5 percent.

Natural gas production maintained growth and the decline in imports expanded. In March, 19.7 billion cubic meters of natural gas was produced, an increase of 6.3 percent year-on-year, 0.4 percentage point slower than that from January to February, and the average daily output was 630 million cubic meters. 7.98 million tons of natural gas were imported, a year-on-year decrease of 8.5 percent, with the decrease rate of 4.7 percentage points higher over January to February.

In the first quarter, 56.9 billion cubic meters of natural gas was produced, a year-on-year increase of 6.6 percent. 27.82 million tons of imported natural gas, a year-on-year decrease of 5.1 percent.

II. Electric Power Production

Power production was basically stable. In March, the power generation was 670.2 billion kwh, a year-on-year increase of 0.2 percent, 3.8 percentage points slower than that from January to February, and the average daily power generation was 21.62 billion kwh. In the first quarter, the power generation was 1,992.2 billion kwh, a year-on-year increase of 3.1 percent.

In terms of varieties, in March, thermal power changed from up to down, nuclear power slowed down, and hydropower, wind power and solar power accelerated or changed from down to up to varying degrees. Among them, thermal power decreased by 5.7 percent year-on-year and increased by 4.3 percent from January to February; hydropower increased by 19.8 percent, 11.6 percentage points faster than that from January to February; nuclear power increased by 2.2 percent, 7.4 percentage points slower than that from January to February; wind power increased by 23.8 percent, and decreased by 7.6 percent from January to February; solar power generation increased by 16.8 percent, 10.3 percentage points faster than that from January to February.

Annotations:

1. Explanatory Notes

Average daily product output: It is calculated by dividing the total output of Industrial Enterprises above the designated size announced in that month by the calendar days of that month.

2. Statistical Coverage

The statistical caliber of the output data in the report is above the designated size of industry, and the statistical scope is industrial enterprises with annual main business income of more than 20 million yuan.

Because the scope of Industrial Enterprises above the designated size changes every year, in order to ensure that this year's data is comparable with the previous year's, the same period used to calculate the growth rate of various indicators such as product output is consistent with the statistical scope of enterprises in this period, and there is a caliber difference between the data released last year.

3. Data Source

Import data comes from the General Administration of Customs, of which December data are express data; coal price data comes from China Coal Market Network; crude oil price data comes from the United States Energy Information Agency (EIA).

4. Conversion relationship of natural gas units: 1 ton is equal to 1380 cubic meters.
