Based on the results of the Seventh National Population Census, released as follows are the major data about residents from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and foreigners living in the 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities of the Chinese mainland (hereinafter referred to as provinces) at 00:00 hours of November 1, 2020 and registered for the census:
I. Population
The census saw a registration of 371380 residents from Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), 55732 residents from Macao SAR, 157886 residents from Taiwan, and 845697 foreigners residing in 31 provinces, totaling 1430695 persons.
II. Sex Composition
Of the above population [2], 736286 persons were males, and 694409 persons were females. Specifically, of the residents from Hong Kong SAR, there were 202296 males and 169084 females. Of the residents from Macao SAR, there were 29067 males and 26665 females. Of the residents from Taiwan, there were 102897 males and 54989 females. Of the foreigners, there were 402026 males and 443671 females.
III. Duration of Stay
Of the above population, 40659 persons stayed for less than 3 months, 56342 persons stayed for 3 to 6 months, 166884 persons stayed for 6 to 12 months, 248174 persons stayed for 1 to 2 years, 314954 persons stayed for 2 to 5 years, and 603682 persons stayed for more than 5 years.
IV. Purposes of Staying in Chinese Mainland
Of the above population, 77008 persons came for business, 444336 persons came for employment, 219761 persons came for study, 419517 persons came for settlement, 74735 persons came to visit relatives, and 195338 persons came for other purposes.
V. Geographic Distribution
By residence of the above persons, the top ten provinces in terms of population size were as follows: Guangdong with 418509 persons, Yunnan with 379281 persons, Shanghai with 163954 persons, Fujian with 106248 persons, Beijing with 62812 persons, Jiangsu with 58201 persons, Zhejiang with 46189 persons, Guangxi with 26043 persons, Shandong with 21829 persons, and Liaoning with 20562 persons. The remaining 127067 persons resided in other provinces.
Notes:
1. All figures in this Communiqué are preliminary results.
2. The above population refers to residents from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and foreigners living in the 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities of the Chinese mainland at the reference time of the census and registered for the census, while those shortly staying for business, travel and other purposes were not included.
