I. Raw Coal, Crude Oil and Natural Gas Production and Relevant Information

The decline of raw coal production was expanded. In July, the production of raw coal was 320 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 3.7 percent, an increase of 2.5 percentage points over the previous month; the average daily output was 10.26 million tons, with a decrease of 880 thousand tons on a month on month basis. From January to July, raw coal was produced 2.12 billion tons, down 0.1 percent year on year.

Coal imports fell. In July, 26.1 million tons of coal were imported, with a month on month increase of 810 thousand tons, a year-on-year decrease of 20.6 percent, an increase of 14.0 percentage points over the previous month; from January to July, the import of coal was 200 million tons, with a year-on-year increase of 6.8 percent.

The comprehensive trading price of port coal rose first and then fell. On July 31, the coal prices of 5500 kcal, 5000 kcal and 4500 kcal at Qinhuangdao Port were 555, 503 and 448 yuan per ton respectively, which were 8, 9 and 9 yuan lower than the highest price on July 10, and 1, 3 and 2 yuan lower than that on July 3.

Crude oil production was basically flat and processing capacity was growing rapidly. In July, 16.46 million tons of crude oil were produced, with a year-on-year increase of 0.6 percent, and the growth rate was 0.1 percentage point lower than that of the previous month; the crude oil processed was 59.56 million tons, an increase of 12.4 percent, 3.4 percentage points higher than that of the previous month. From January to July, 113.5 million tons of crude oil were produced, with a year-on-year increase of 1.4 percent; and 380 million tons of crude oil were processed, with a year-on-year increase of 2.3 percent.

Crude oil imports grew rapidly, and international crude oil prices rebounded. In July, 51.29 million tons of crude oil were imported, up 25.0 percent year on year. From January to July, imports of crude oil reached 320 million tons, up 12.1 percent year on year. On July 31, the spot FOB price of Brent crude oil was 43.13 USD per barrel, up 3.6 percent from 41.64 USD per barrel on June 30.

Natural gas production has slowed down. In July, 14.2 billion cubic meters of natural gas were produced, with a year-on-year increase of 4.8 percent, and the growth rate was 6.5 percentage points lower than that of the previous month; the average daily output was 460 million cubic meters, a decrease of 50 million cubic meters on a month on month basis. From January to July, 108.3 billion cubic meters of natural gas were produced, with a year-on-year increase of 9.5 percent.

The import of natural gas has changed from increase to decrease. In July, 7.35 million tons of natural gas were imported, a year-on-year decrease of 6.9 percent and an increase of 11.5 percent in last month. From January to July, 55.71 million tons of natural gas were imported, with a year-on-year increase of 1.9 percent.

II. Electric Power Production

The growth of electricity production slowed down. In July, the power generation was 680.1 billion kwh, up 1.9 percent year-on-year, 4.6 percent lower than that of the previous month; the average daily power generation was 21.94 billion kwh, an increase of 930 million kwh on a month on month basis. From January to July, the power generation was 4,045.1 billion kwh, down 0.9 percent year on year.

In terms of varieties, in July, the growth rate of thermal power and solar power generation changed from positive to negative, the growth rate of hydropower and nuclear power decreased, and the growth rate of wind power increased. Among them, thermal power decreased by 0.7 percent year-on-year, which was 5.4 percent of increase in last month; solar power generation decreased by 0.6 percent, which was 5.8 percent of increase in last month; hydropower increased by 6.1 percent, with the growth rate down by 0.8 percentage point; nuclear power increased by 6.7 percent, decreased by 6.9 percentage points; wind power increased by 23.2 percent, accelerated by 7.4 percentage points.

Annotations:

1. Explanatory Notes

Average daily product output: It is calculated by dividing the total output of Industrial Enterprises above the designated size announced in that month by the calendar days of that month.

2. Statistical Coverage

The statistical caliber of the output data in the report is above the designated size of industry, and the statistical scope is industrial enterprises with annual main business income of more than 20 million yuan.

Because the scope of Industrial Enterprises above the designated size changes every year, in order to ensure that this year's data is comparable with the previous year's, the same period used to calculate the growth rate of various indicators such as product output is consistent with the statistical scope of enterprises in this period, and there is a caliber difference between the data released last year.

3. Data Source

Import data comes from the General Administration of Customs, of which March data are express data; coal price data comes from China Coal Market Network; crude oil price data comes from the United States Energy Information Agency (EIA).

4. Conversion relationship of natural gas units: 1 ton is equal to 1380 cubic meters.
