Communiqué on the Fourth National Economic Census (No. 3)

---- Basic Information of the Secondary Industry

Based on the results of the Fourth National Economic Census, the major data of Industry and Construction are released as the following:

 

I. Industry

 

1. Number of Corporate Enterprises and Persons Employed

 

At the end of 2018, there were 3.451 million industrial corporate enterprises nationwide, up by 43.2 percent compared with that at the end of 2013; 115.215 million persons employed, down by 17.9 percent compared with that at the end of 2013.

 

Among the industrial corporate enterprises, there were 3.364 million domestic funded enterprises, taking up 97.5 percent; 43 thousand enterprises funded by investors from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, taking up 1.3 percent; and 44 thousand foreign funded enterprises, taking up 1.3 percent. Among domestic funded enterprises, the number of state-owned enterprises was 11 thousand, taking up 0.3 percent of all enterprises; collective-owned enterprises 26 thousand, taking up 0.7 percent; and private enterprises 2.912 million, taking up 84.4 percent.

 

Among the persons employed by industrial corporate enterprises, those of domestic funded enterprises took up 83.5 percent, enterprises funded by investors from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan 8.2 percent and foreign funded enterprises 8.4 percent. Among domestic funded enterprise, state-owned enterprises accounted for 1.6 percent, collective-owned enterprises 0.5 percent and private enterprises 51.9 percent. (Table 3-1)

Among industrial corporate enterprises, there were 70 thousand mining enterprises, 3.270 million manufacturing enterprises and 110 thousand enterprises of electricity, heat power, gas and water production and supply, taking up 2.0 percent, 94.8 percent and 3.2 percent respectively. Within the entire industry, the top three divisions were the manufacture of general purpose machinery; the manufacture of metal products; and the manufacture of non-metallic mineral products, taking up 9.7 percent, 9.5 percent and 7.6 percent respectively.

 

In terms of persons employed by industrial corporate enterprises, mining industry took up 5.2 percent; manufacturing 90.8 percent; and production and supply of electricity, heat power, gas and water 4.0 percent. Within the entire industry, the top three divisions were the manufacture of computer, communication equipment and other electronic equipment; the manufacture of electrical machinery and equipment; and the manufacture of non-metallic mineral products, taking up 8.8 percent, 6.4 percent and 6.3 percent respectively. (Table 3-2)

 

2. Main Economic Indicators

 

At the end of 2018, the total assets of industrial corporate enterprises reached 139.29230 trillion yuan, an increase of 32.4 percent compared with that at the end of 2013. The total liabilities were 78.33658 trillion yuan. The business revenue of the year reached 118.52699 trillion yuan. (Table 3-3)

II. Construction

 

1. Number of Corporate Enterprises and Persons Employed

 

At the end of 2018, there were 1.218 million construction corporate enterprises with 58.089 million persons employed, up by 250.5 percent and 9.2 percent respectively than that at the end of 2013.

 

Among the construction corporate enterprises, 1.216 million were domestic funded enterprises, taking up 99.8 percent. Of the total, state-owned enterprises accounted for 0.3 percent of domestic funded enterprises, collective-owned enterprises 0.4 percent and private enterprises 83.6 percent.

 

In terms of persons employed by construction corporate enterprises, domestic funded enterprises accounted for 99.6 percent. In which, state-owned enterprises took up 1.7 percent, collective-owned enterprises 2.0 percent and private enterprises 55.8 percent. (Table 3-5)

Among construction corporate enterprises, 21.4 percent were house building enterprises, 20.6 percent were civil engineering enterprises, 15.0 percent were installation enterprises and 43.0 percent were enterprises for decoration, renovation and others.

 

In terms of persons employed by construction corporate enterprises, house building enterprises took up 61.8 percent, civil engineering enterprises 18.9 percent, installation enterprises 6.6 percent, and enterprises for decoration, renovation and others 12.7 percent. (Table 3-6)

At the end of 2018, the total assets of construction corporate enterprises reached 34,235.56 billion yuan, an increase of 104.2 percent compared with that at the end of 2013. The total liabilities were 22,307.38 billion yuan. The business revenue of the year reached 25,627.79 billion yuan. (Table 3-7)
