Mr. Xian Zude Meets with the UN Resident Coordinator a.i. and Representative of World Food Program China Office Mr. Qu Sixi in China

On the afternoon of July 9Mr. Xian Zude, Deputy Commissioner of the National Bureau of Statistics of China (NBS), met with the delegation headed by Mr. Qu Sixi, the UN Resident Coordinator (RC) a.i. and Representative of World Food Program (WFP) China Office in China.

 

 

 

Mr. Xian Zude first extended a warm welcome to the delegation on behalf of the NBS. He said that NBS has maintained long and friendly cooperation with the UN agencies. Over the past decade, the NBS has helped developing countries enhance their statistical capacity and improve their statistical work through the UN-China Trust Fund Project for Statistical Capacity Development. Meanwhile, the NBS actively participated in the UN statistical commission sessions and put forward opinions and suggestions on the UN 2030 agenda for sustainable development and other related issues. It was a great pleasure to exchange ideas with the delegation on relevant statistical work.

 

Mr. Qu Sixi, the UN Resident Coordinator a.i. and representative of World Food Program China Office, extended his gratitude for the hospitality of the NBS. Mr. Qu introduced the reform of the UN agencies in China and the preparation for the UN Cooperation Framework on Sustainable Development2021-2025, and looked forward to strengthening ties and deepening cooperation with the NBS in the future to ensure that the framework is in line with the development priorities of the Chinese Government.

 

The UN Cooperation Framework on Sustainable Development 2021-2025 is the cooperation framework between the Chinese government and the UN system in China in the new cycle, following the UN Assistance Framework for China’s Development2016-2020. The three priorities identified in the UN Assistance Framework for China’s Development (2016-2020) are: poverty reduction and fair development, ecological environment improvement and sustainable development, and greater participation in global affairs. Mr. Xian Zude acknowledged the relevance of the three priorities and recommended that multidimensional poverty, data production and integration, methodologies for the measurement of sustainable development goals and statistical capacity building for China and other developing countries should be taken into account in the formulation of the UN cooperation framework on sustainable development 2021-2025.

 

Mr. Cheng Zilin, Director-General of the Department of Statistical Design and Management, Ms. An Yuhuan, Director-General of the Department of International Cooperation, Mr. Wang Quanzhong, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Statistical Design and Management, Ms. Jiang Leiguang, Deputy Counsel of the Department of Comprehensive Statistics and Mr. Lu Zhixian, Deputy Director-General of the International Statistical Information Center attended the meeting.
