Mr. Ning Jizhe Met with Director of US Bureau of Economic Analysis

On the afternoon of October 11, 2018, Mr. Ning Jizhe, Deputy Chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission and Commissioner of the National Bureau of Statistics of China (NBS), met with Mr. Brian C. Moyer, Director of the US Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA).

On behalf of the NBS, Mr. Ning Jizhe expressed his sincere welcome to the delegation headed by Mr. Moyer. Mr. Ning said that during his visit to the BEA last July, he had fruitful discussions with Mr. Moyer about the compilation of supply and use tables and the coordination between the production- and expenditure-based GDP accounting. Mr. Moyer’s visit to the NBS showed his attention to the Sino-US statistical cooperation and his support for China's national economic accounting.

Mr. Ning Jizhe said that as the BEA had rich experience in the national economic accounting and the NBS was trying to use internationally comparable methods to measure China's economic development, this would be a good opportunity for the NBS to learn from the BEA and also to strengthen the two parties’ cooperation in statistical analysis and accounting.

Mr. Moyer thanked Mr. Ning Jizhe for his invitation and hospitality. Mr. Moyer said that Mr. Ning's visit to the BEA last July was the most successful and effective exchange between the two agencies so far. The statistical achievements, the openness, the professionalism and the passion for participating in international statistical cooperation of the NBS were admirable. It was a great honor to be a part of the reform of China's national economic accounting and he was willing to further strengthen the cooperation with the NBS in this area.

During the delegation's visit, the experts from both sides had in-depth discussion on the compilation of supply and use tables, GDP accounting by expenditure method and digital economic accounting.

Mr. Li Xiaochao, Deputy Commissioner of the NBS, Mr. Zhang Jun, Director-General of the Department of International Cooperation, Mr. Zhao Tonglu, Director-General of the Department of National Accounts, and Mr. Dong Lihua, Director-General of the Census Center, attended the meeting.
