Mr. Ning Jizhe, Commissioner of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) of China, attended the 50th anniversary of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in Vienna, Austria, and visited the UNIDO on November 21.
On the anniversary, Mr. Ning Jizhe read a letter from Chinese Premier Li Keqiang congratulating the 50th anniversary of the UNIDO. On behalf of the NBS of China, Mr. Ning warmly congratulated UNIDO on its 50th anniversary as well. He said that as a universal language, statistics has become an important foundation of promoting economic and social development, enhancing international exchanges and cooperation around the world more than ever. The NBS of China is willing to strengthen statistical cooperation and develop exchanges with all international organizations and national statistical agencies, including the UNIDO, learn from each other, and make active contributions to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Mr. Ning Jizhe met with Mr. Li Yong, Director General of the UNIDO, and Mr. Ludouico Alcorta, Managing Director of the Department of Policy Research and Statistics of the UNIDO, etc. He spoke positively of UNIDO's efforts to enhance the industrial statistics capacity of developing countries and to improve the international comparability of industrial statistics.
The two sides reviewed the history of friendly cooperation between the NBS of China and the UNIDO, and agreed to strengthen the exchange of statistical data, deepen the cooperation in industrial statistics and policy research, promote the industrial statistics capacity of developing countries including China, and make joint efforts to impel inclusive and sustainable industrial development of the whole world.
The visit was accompanied by Messrs. Zhang Jun, Director-General of the Department of International Cooperation, Xing Zhihong, Director-General of the Department of Urban Surveys, and Xia Rongpo, Director-General of the Statistical Education and Training Center of the NBS.
