Mr. Ma Jiantang Met with Mr. Roderich Egeler, President of Destatis

The German Delegation headed by Mr. Roderich Egeler, President, the Federal Statistics Office of Germany (Destatis), was invited to visit the National Bureau of Statistics of China (NBS), from July 5 to 8. Messrs. Ma Jiantang and Roderich Egeler respectively introduced national statistical works, reviewed the Sino- German statistical cooperation, and explored the key points of future cooperation.  

 

Mr. Ma Jiantang focused on the introduation to the progress of the ongoing Economic Census in China, and Big Data research. Mr. Ma pointed out that, the bright spot of the Economic Census was the extensively use of GPS and PDA technology to improve the efficiency of data collection and processing, which boost the quality and timeliness of the census data. Big Data was an important data source and supplement to the government statistical works, NBS attached great importance to the research work on Big Data, and actively explored the use of Big Data in statistical work, especially in the aspects of commodity prices and sales. 

 

Messrs. Ma Jiantang and Roderich Egeler highly evaluated the long-term of Sino-German cooperation relationship. In November, 2012, Messrs. Ma Jiantang and Roderich Egeler signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in statistics, which laid a solid foundation for friendly cooperation between the two sides. In recent years, both sides developed various forms of exchanges such as expert interview, cooperation projects, and seminars to gained fruitful exchanges and cooperation in statistical law construction, wage statistics, labor force survey, cost structure survey, and survey design pre-test. Both of them agreed that, the strengthening on Sino-German communication and cooperation would promote the common progress and development. Furthermore, the two sides would  organized experts to carried out the deeply research on Big Data to promoted the application of Big Data in the government statistical works. For the implementation of the project, besides the mutual exchanges of the experts, other forms of exchanges such as e-mail and video conference should be encouraged in order to improve the efficiency of the exchanges. The Destatis welcomes the Chinese Statisticians to visit the Destatis, and to work together with the German Statistical experts in order to understand the whole process of statistics for related subject matters.  

 

The Delegation also visited the Shaanxi Provincial Bureau of Statistics, and the Bureau of Statistics in Weiyang District, Xi’an City, for understanding the statistical works in provincial and local levels, and the experience in organizing and implementing the Population Census and the Economic Census.
