Mr. Ma Jiantang Led a Delegation to study the Statistical Work in South Korea

From February 21 to 24, Mr. Ma Jiantang, Commissioner of the NBS, led a delegation to visit the Statistics Korea (KOSTAT) and the Bank of Korea (BOK), to study the statistical work and to understand the economic development trends of South Korea, and exchanged views on the statistical cooperation between China and South Korea with Mr. Woo, Ki Jong, Commissioner of the KOSTAT, Mr. Park, Won Shik, Senior Deputy Governor of the BOK, and Mr. Kim, Jun Il, Deputy Governor of the BOK. 

 

 

Officials of the KOSTAT introduced the basic situation of Korean statistical system and the KOSTAT to the Chinese delegation, such as relevant legal requirements of the management of the national statistical work, especially the statistical work of various departments of the central government; methods of carrying out coordination on statistical standards, the approval of the statistical activities, data quality assessment, and data release; modern technology, especially the applications of remote sensing technology in Korean agricultural statistics; and the statistical training programs, curriculum, facilities, etc., developed by the KOSTAT, aiming at the ability improving of statisticians. Mr. Ma Jiantang was invited to make a speech for the trainees. He encouraged them to study hard and to improve their skills, in order to be competent for the statistical work.

 

 

During the visit to the BOK, the delegation studied the accounting of the fixed capital formation in South Korea, in particular the accounting methods of carrying out gross fixed capital formation by using statistical surveys and administrative records of the various government departments. The BOK made a presentation of the future direction of South Korea’s economy from the perspective of economic growth, employment, prices, etc., on the background of global economy.

 

 

Members of the delegation that accompanied Mr. Ma Jiantang’s visit included Messrs. Du Weiqun, Director-General of Department of International Cooperation, Liu Heng, Director-General of Department of Policies and Legislation, Jia Hai, Director-General of Department of Investment and Construction Statistics, and Ms Zhang Shuying, Director-General of Department of Rural Surveys.
