Brief Introduction

I. Main Contents

Data in this chapter show the general situation and the development of the construction industry in China. They cover the situation of production and management of construction enterprises, including the number of enterprises; gross output value and value added of the construction industry; floor space of buildings under construction; profits and taxes; and labour productivity etc. Also included in this chapter are main indicators on the situation of prospecting and designing institutions, construction project supervision unit and personnel.

II. Scope of Statistics

In view of the development of the construction industry, starting from 2002 the scope of construction statistics has been adjusted to include all construction enterprises of various types of ownership with qualification certificates and independent accounting systems, replacing the previous criteria that required construction enterprises of various types of ownership to have qualification certificates at or above Grade 4 with independent accounting systems.

III. Sources of Data and Methods of Survey

This set of statistical data on construction enterprises has been compiled from the annual reporting materials stipulated in the Statistical Reporting System of Construction.

The list of survey and design units and construction project supervision enterprises is provided by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development.

IV. Explanation of Data Situation

This article has revised the data of relevant indicators such as the total output value of the construction industry, mainly due to: (1) Strengthen statistical law enforcement and correct the problem data found in statistical law enforcement inspections in accordance with relevant regulations. （2） Strengthen management of data quality and remove non construction enterprise data from the database as the main business.
