Brief Introduction

 

I. Main Contents

Data in this chapter present the social and economic development of rural areas, urban areas, ethnic minority autonomous areas, and eastern, central, western and northeastern regions.

II. Sources of Data

Data on rural conditions are provided by the Department of Rural Social and Economic Survey of NBS using data from the Statistical Reporting System on Agricultural, Forestry, Animal Husbandry and Fishery.

Data on distribution of cities in China and major economic indicators of provincial capitals and cities with independent planning authority are collected and provided by the Department of Urban Social and Economic Survey of NBS in accordance with the Statistical Reporting System on Basic Situation of Cities.

Data on basic conditions and overall level of urban public facilities are collected, prepared and provided by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development in line with its Statistical Reporting System on Construction of Cities (Counties), Villages and Towns. .

Statistics of urban public transport are collected through relevant report forms and provided by the Ministry of Transport according to Urban Construction Statistical Reporting System.

Data on ethnic minority autonomous areas and minority nationalities are collected jointly by ethnic affairs commissions and statistical bureaus in 20 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities with ethnic minority autonomous areas in accordance with Statistical Reporting System on Economic and Social Development, jointly issued by the National Ethnic Affairs Commission and the National Bureau of Statistics.

Statistics on economic and social development by region are compiled using data in this Yearbook by different subject areas and by province to reflect the economic and social development in eastern, central, western and northeastern regions.

III. Scope and Coverage of Statistics

Data on urban public facilities are provided by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, covering all cities. Statistically, the data cover all construction administrative departments, legal entities and industrial activity units which are engaged in urban planning, construction, management, and operation of urban public facilities.

Data on the ethnic minority autonomous areas and the ethnic minorities cover all units under the jurisdiction of the 5 ethnic minority autonomous regions, 30 autonomous prefectures and 120 autonomous counties. Duplication is deducted in the national tabulation. Methodology of data collection is complete enumeration. In addition, data on the public health of the ethnic minority autonomous areas are provided by the Ministry of Health, and data on the divisions of administrative areas are tabulated and prepared in accordance with the Concise Edition of the Divisions of Administrative Areas compiled by the Ministry of Civil Affairs.
