I. Main Contents

Data in this chapter reflect the development of hotel and catering services and tourism in China. They mainly include: basic conditions, operating and financial status of hotel and catering services above the designated size; operating status of chain catering services; basic conditions of travel agencies and star-rated hotels; number of international tourists and Chinese residents going abroad, number of domestic tourists and income from international and domestic tourism.

II. Scope of Statistics

Data in this chapter cover the corporate enterprises of hotel and catering services above the designated size, self-employed households of hotel and catering services; headquarters of chain catering services, travel agencies, star-rated hotels and tourists; The statistical units of the enterprises of hotel and catering services above the designated size refer to those with an annual income from main business at and over 2 million yuan.

III. Sources of Data

Data on hotels and catering services in this chapter are collected and compiled according to the Statistical Reporting System on Hotels and Catering Services. Data on tourism are from Ministry of Culture and Tourism and National Immigration Administration.

IV. Methods of Survey

Data on corporate enterprises of hotel and catering services above the designated size and headquarters of chain catering services are collected from the comprehensive reporting system. Data on the enterprises of hotel and catering services below the designated size and self-employed households are compiled from the results of sample survey. Data on tourism are from the comprehensive reporting system, except for those on earnings from international and domestic tourism and number of domestic tourists, which are from sample surveys.
