Brief Introduction

 

I. Main Contents

Data in this chapter mainly reflect the development of news and publication; radio and television broadcasting, films; culture; cultural relics; archives and sports undertakings.

Contents of this chapter cover the publication, printing, and issuance of books, magazines, newspapers, audio-visual products, and import and export of copyrights of the country and by region; the coverage and techniques of radio and television programs, and films of the country and by region; number of institutions and employed persons, funds and activities of art performance troupes, public libraries, mass cultural institutions, museums and archive institutions at national level and by region; personnel of national sports system, world championships won and world records set by Chinese athletes.

II. Sources of Data

Data on news and publications are from the General Administration of Press and Publication. Data on films are from the State Film Bureau. Data on radio and television broadcasting are from the State Administration of Radio and Television. Data on culture are provided by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Data on cultural relics are from State Administration of Cultural Heritage. Data on archives are from State Archives Administration. Data on sports are from General Administration of Sport.

III. Notes on Data Use

Data of cultural-related enterprises above designated size are not fully comparable with previous years. The main reason is that some enterprises meet the size criteria to be included in the survey, while some other enterprises withdraw from the survey because of the shrinking size, and there are other changes: newly-built enterprises, bankrupted enterprises, cancelation of enterprises, etc., resulted in the changing number of cultural-related enterprises above designated size.
