Brief Introduction

I. Main Contents

Data in this chapter reflect the development and operation of enterprises above designated size of wholesale and retail trades，highlighting commodity circulation，consumption, market operation, and modernization of logistics of China’s domestic trade. Main contents include the basic conditions of the wholesale and retail trades above designated size; circulation of commodities; financial status; total retail sales of consumer goods; turnover of large commodity transaction markets with transaction over 100 million yuan; development of chain stores of retail trades, etc.

II. Scope of Statistics

Data in this chapter cover corporate enterprises and self-employed individuals above the designated size engaged in wholesale and retail trades; chain enterprises; large commodity markets with transaction value over 100 million yuan; and corporate enterprises, establishments and self-employed individuals of other industries that are involved in retail trades and catering services. The criteria for wholesale and retail sale trades above designated size are as follows: wholesale trade with annual principal business sales over 20 million yuan; and retail trade, with annual principal business sales over 5 million yuan.

III. Sources of Data

Data in this chapter are collected and processed in accordance with Statistical Reporting System on Wholesale and Retail Trades by the Department of Trade and External Economic Relations of the National Bureau of Statistics.

IV. Methods of Survey

Data on main indicators for all  enterprises of wholesale and retail trades above designated size, self-employed individuals, the establishments of other industries involved in the wholesale and retail trades， chain enterprises of wholesale and retail trades, large commodity markets with transaction value over 100 million yuan are collected through comprehensive reporting  system. Data on corporate enterprises and self-employed individuals below the designated size are collected by sample surveys.
