Brief Introduction

Main Contents and Sources of Data

Data in this chapter show statistics on social participation, public security, procuratorial, legal and judicial affairs, mass organizations, labor protection and so on.

I. Data on social participation cover mainly information on representatives to the National People’s Congress (NPC) and members of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). Data are provided by NPC and CPPCC respectively. Data on expiration of office terms of NPC and CPPCC are updated every five years.

II．Data on public security, procuratorial, legal and judicial affairs cover information such as criminal cases registered and offense cases handled by the public security agencies, traffic or fire accidents, cases handled by procuratorate’s offices, cases accepted and settled by the people’s courts, and statistics on lawyers, notarization and mediation. Data are from the Ministry of Public Security, the Supreme People’s Procuratorate, the Supreme People’s Court and the Ministry of Justice based on statistical reporting form scheme.

III. Data on mass organizations cover information on labor unions and cadres of women’s federations, which are provided by All-China Federation of Trade Union and All China Women’s Federation based on statistical reporting forms. The detailed information on labor union can be found in Statistical Yearbook on Chinese Labor Union (All-China Federation of Trade Union).

IV. Data on labour security mainly include revenue and expenses of social insurance fund, urban employee basic pension insurance, urban basic medical care insurance, unemployment insurance in regions, work injury insurance, maternity insurance, etc. Data are from the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security.
