Brief Introduction

I. Main Contents

Data in this chapter show the general situation and the development of the construction industry in China. They cover the situation of production and management of the construction enterprises, including the number of enterprises; number of employed persons; gross output value and value added of the construction industry; floor space of buildings under construction; profits and taxes; and labour productivity etc. They also cover main indicators on the situation of prospecting and designing institutions and personnel.

II. Scope of Statistics

In view of the development of the construction industry, starting from 2002 the scope of construction statistics has been adjusted to include all the construction enterprises of various types of ownership with qualification certificates and independent accounting systems, replacing the previous criteria that required construction enterprises of various types of ownership to have qualification certificates at or above Class 4 with independent accounting systems.

III. Sources of Data and Methods of Survey

Data on construction enterprises are collected in accordance with the Reporting Form System of Construction Statistics stipulated by the National Bureau of Statistics. The construction statistical reports are deployed and collected through comprehensive survey by National Bureau of Statistics in accordance with the real conditions of the enterprises, they are directly reported by qualified construction enterprises through internet. Data on prospecting and designing institutions and their personnel are provided by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, based on the requirements on the annual reporting specified in the Statistical Reporting Form System of Prospecting and Designing stipulated by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development.
