Brief Introduction

 

 


I. Main Contents

Data in this chapter present the social and economic development as well as the basic conditions of the scale, growth rate, economic efficiency and overall level of urban construction of China’s cities. The main content is composed of three parts:

 (1) Distribution of cities in China;

 (2) Main economic indicators of provincial capitals and cities specially designated in the State plan;

 (3) Indicators reflecting basic conditions and overall level of urban public facilities.

Data on public facilities include urban construction; supply of water, gas and heating; municipal infrastructure; public transportation; urban greenery; and environmental, sanitation.

II. Sources of Data

Data on distribution of cities in China and major economic indicators of provincial capitals and cities specially designated in the State plan are collected and prepared by the statistical bureaus of the provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government and the Department of Urban Social and Economic Survey of the NBS in accordance with the Statistical Reporting Form System on the Basic Social and Economic Situation of the Cities and Counties, which is stipulated by the NBS.

Data on basic conditions and overall level of urban public facilities are collected, prepared and provided by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development in line with its Statistical Reporting Form System on Urban Construction.

Statistics of urban public transport are provided by Transport Department who organizes the Transport Department at provincial level and Housing and Urban-Rural Development Department, and collected relevant report forms from Urban Construction Statistical Report Forms System of Housing and Urban-Rural Development Department.

III. Scope and Coverage of Statistics

Data on urban public facilities are provided by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, which has responsibility covering all cities. Statistically, the data cover all units under the jurisdiction of cities which are engaged in urban planning and management, investment, construction and operation of relevant facilities.
