Brief Introduction
I. Main Contents
Data in this chapter
mainly reflect the development of culture; sports; public health; news and
publication; and radio broadcasting, films and television.
Data on culture
cover mainly the situations on institutions, personnel and business activities
of cultural undertakings including arts performing groups and performance
venues; public libraries; museums; cultural centres; archives; cultural
stations; broadcasting; films; television; news and publication; and cultural
relics. Data on sports cover mass
sports (sports for all) and athletic sports, including mainly the number of
staff and workers in sports departments, number of stadiums and gymnasiums,
achievements in athletic sports events, number of persons who have come up to
the National Physical Training Program Standards and the international
exchanges of sports delegations. Data on public health include mainly the
number of institutions; personnel, hospital beds; number of patients treated
and in-patients; major diseases as the causes of death and their proportions in
total deaths; the incidence of and the deaths caused by infectious diseases;
and estimates of health cost.
II. Sources of Data
Data are collected
and tabulated in accordance with the statistical reporting schemes stipulated
by the departments concerned. Data on the causes of arts, libraries, mass
culture are provided by the Ministry of Culture. Data on archives are from
National Bureau of Archives. Data on broadcasting, film and television are
mainly from State Administration of Broadcasting, Film and Television. Data on
news and publication are mainly provided by the State Agency of News and
Publication. Data on sports are mainly from the State Sports Administration.
Data on public health are mainly from the Ministry of Public Health.
