Brief Introduction
I. Main Contents
Data in this chapter reflect the basic
conditions of the industrial sector, presenting main industrial economic indicators
of 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities:
(1) The number and the gross industrial
output value of all State-owned industrial enterprises and the non-State-owned
enterprises that are above designated size; as well as their main economic
indicators and efficiency indicators classified by type of registration, by
light and heavy industries, by size of the enterprises, by branch of industry
and by province.
(2) Main economic indicators and
efficiency indicators of State-owned industrial enterprises and enterprises
where the State holds the majority of shares; foreign-funded industrial enterprises
and enterprises funded by entrepreneurs from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan; and
private enterprises, classified by branch of industry and by province;
(3)Main economic indicators and
efficiency indicators of large and medium-sized industrial enterprises
classified by branch of industry and by geographical area.

II. Scopes of Statistics
Industrial statistics cover all industrial
enterprises within the country (excluding
Since 1998, scope of industrial statistics
changed from the basis of type of ownership to the size of enterprises, they
are: all State-owned industrial enterprises and those non-State industrial
enterprises with revenue from principal business over 5 million yuan, and
non-state industrial enterprises with revenue from principle business below 5 million
yuan.
Data by industries in this chapter are based
on the 2002 National Industrial Classification of all Economic
Activities, and data by size of enterprises are based on the 2003 Preliminary
Standards of Enterprises by Size.
III. Sources of Data and Methods of Survey
The data on enterprises statistics in this Chapter are
collated mainly based on the relevant data in the annual industrial statistics
reporting forms.
