I. Main Content

Data in this chapter reflect the basic condition of industrial sector including main industrial economic indicators of 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities.

 (1) The number of industrial enterprises, and the gross industrial output value of all state-owned industrial enterprises and the non-state enterprises that are above designated size;

(2) Main economic indicators and efficiency indicators of all state-owned industrial enterprises, and of non-state enterprises above designated size classified by type of registration, light and heavy industries, size of the enterprises, branch of industrial enterprises and regions. Those indicators include gross industrial output value, industrial value-added, total capital hold, total assets, total liabilities, working capital (circulating assets), fixed assets, liquid liabilities, long-term liabilities, creditors equity, sales income, sales cost, sales tax and extra-charges, total profits, value-added tax payable, ratio of value-added to gross industrial output value, ratio of profits, taxes and interests to average assets, ratio of debts to assets, ratio of profits to cost and charges, turnover of working capital and overall labour productivity, sales ratio of industrial products;

(3) Main economic indicators and efficiency indicators of the state-owned industrial enterprises and enterprises where the state holds the majority of shares, classified by region and by branch of industry;

(4) Major indicators of foreign-funded industrial enterprises and enterprises funded by entrepreneurs from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan are classified by region and by branch of industry;

(5) Major indicators of large and medium scale industrial enterprises by region and by branch of industry;

(6) Output of key industrial products;

(7) Production capacity of main products by key industrial enterprises;

(8) Economic efficiency indicators of industrial enterprises by main status of registration.

 

II. Coverage of Statistics

Industrial statistics covers all industrial enterprises within the territory (excluding Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan). Before 1997, the industrial statistics was based on types of ownership, consisting of following six parts: industrial enterprises at and above county level with independent accounting system and production units with dependant accounting system, village industrial enterprise, urban joint industrial enterprises, rural joint industrial enterprise, urban individual industrial enterprises, and rural industrial enterprises (village industrial enterprises were not included in this part before 1984).

Since 1998, the coverage of industrial statistics was changed from types of ownership to the size of enterprises, they are: all state-owned industrial enterprises and those non-state industrial enterprises with annual sales over 5 million yuan, and non-state industrial enterprises with annual sales below 5 million yuan.

 Data in this chapter cover the all state-owned industrial enterprises and those non-state-owned industrial enterprises with annual sales over 5 million yuan. The shortened description is all state-owned industrial enterprises and non-state enterprises above designated size.

       Data by industries in this chapter are based on the 2002 National Industrial Classification of all Economic Activities, and data by size of enterprises are based on the Preliminary Standards of Enterprises by Size.

III. Source of Data and Survey Methodology

The industrial enterprises statistics in this chapter are collected from Year Report of Industrial Statistics, which are provided by statistical bureaus of all provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities through Comprehensive Reports to NBS. Statistical agencies at various levels arrange and collect data through comprehensive reporting system basing of real situation in local areas.

The table on Production Capacity of Major Industrial Products in this chapter includes 41 main industrial products in 2002. Sources of data are mainly from departments concerned, guild and corporations, which are main enterprises within the sector.
