General Survey of Cities

 

I. Main Content

Data in this chapter show the social and economic development as well as the scale, growth rate, economic efficiency, overall level and other basic conditions of China’s cities. The main content is composed of the following 5 parts:

(1) Distribution of the cities in China;

(2) Main indicators on the social and economic development of the open coastal cities and the cities in special economic zones;

(3) Main indicators on the social and economic development of the provincial capitals and the important cities separately listed in the national plan;

(4) Main indicators on the social and economic development of cities at and above prefecture level

(5) Indicators on the urban residential buildings and public facilities.

II. Source of Data

Data of the first 4 parts (distribution of the cities in China, main indicators on the social and economic development of the open coastal cities and the cities in special economic zones, main indicators on the social and economic development of the provincial capitals and the important cities separately listed in the national plan, and main indicators on the social and economic development of cities at and above prefecture level) are collected and prepared by the statistical bureaus of the provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the central government and urban socio-economic survey organizations of these bureaus in accordance with the Statistical Reporting System on the Basic Social and Economic Situation of the Cities and Counties, which is stipulated by the NBS.

Data on the areas, buildings and public facilities of the cities in the General Survey of Cities are collected, prepared and provided by the Ministry of Construction in line with its Statistical Reporting System of Construction in Cities and Counties and Statistical Reporting System on Real Estate Development.
