Notes: Subventions on education are included.

           No expenditure as from 1995/1996 due to transfer of the Colleges of Education and the Institute of Language in Education to the Hong Kong Institute of Education on 1 September 1994.

          Excludes provisions for student loans/grants related to Local Student Finance Scheme, UK/HK Government Joint Funding Scheme ($332.47  million) and Commonwealth Scholarship($0.85 million) as from 1992/1993.

          Grants to the UGC-funded institutions are included. The Hong Kong Institute of  Education started to receive capital grants from 1.4.1997 and recurrent grants from   1.12.1996.

          Student finance-grants and student travel subsidy scheme are administered by the Student Financial  Assistance Agency as from 1990/1991.

          A means test was introduced to student travel subsidy scheme since 1991/1992 to assess the application of individual school students.

          The Open Learning Institute of Hong Kong became self-financing starting from 1 April 1993. It was retitled the Open University of Hong Kong on 30 May 1997.
