Kang Yi Held a Videoconference with Director of the United Nations Statistics Division

On the morning of June 6, Kang Yi, Commissioner of the National Bureau of Statistics of China (NBS of China), held a videoconference with Stefan Schweinfest, Director of the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD). They exchanged ideas about the Trust Fund Project Planning on Statistical Capacity Development between China and the United Nations, the future growth of United Nations Global Hub on Big Data and Data Science for Official Statistics, and other matters.

Commissioner Kang Yi extended his heartfelt congratulations to Mr. Schweinfest on his forthcoming retirement with honor and expressed high appreciation for his outstanding contributions to global statistical development during his tenure as Director of UNSD. Moreover, Commissioner Kang Yi emphasized that the NBS of China has maintained a long-standing and close cooperative relationship with UNSD. Over the years, this collaboration has yielded significant progress across various joint programs and initiatives. These efforts have advanced the internationalization of China's statistical practices and provided valuable opportunities for the country to deeply participate in global statistical governance. He expressed that the NBS of China will continue to extend its strong support to UNSD and remain actively engaged in the international statistical cooperation to advance global statistical courses to a new height.

Mr. Schweinfest expressed his sincere appreciation for the longstanding support to UNSD from the NBS of China. He stated that the NBS of China plays an active and constructive role in the international statistical governance. In particular, through initiatives such as the Trust Fund Project and the construction of the Global Hub, it has made extraordinary contributions to advancing global statistical development—especially in enhancing statistical capacity for developing countries. He also expressed full confidence in the continued deepening of the cooperation between the two parties in the years ahead.
