           The Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education was established in 1999 and was composed of nine campuses of which two are the former

               technical colleges and seven are the technical institutes. The nine campuses are Chai Wan, Haking Wong, Kwai Chung, Kwun Tong, Lee

               Wai Lee, Morrison Hill, Sha Tin, Tsing Yi, and Tuen Mun. The Chai Wan and Tsing Yi campuses were the two former Technical Colleges

                whereas the other campuses were the seven former Technical Institutes.

            Craft level courses are post-secondary 3 courses.

            Higher technician and technician level courses are post-secondary 5 courses but higher technician level courses aremore advanced courses.

            Higher technician/technician level courses are post-secondary 5 courses with common first year curricula.

            The Hong Kong Technical College (Chai Wan) and the Hong Kong Technical College (Tsing Yi) started operation in 1993.

            Figures refer to students of UGC-funded programmes only.  Figures from 1996 onwards include those for the Hong Kong Institute of

               Education, which came under the aegis of the University Grants Committee (UGC) with effect from 1 July 1996.  Lingnan College was

                retitled as Lingnan University on 30 July 1999.

            Figures include students in certificate, advanced certificate, professional certificate, diploma, advanced diploma andprofessional diploma

                courses.

            The Open Learning Institute of Hong Kong was established in June 1989.  It was retitled The Open University of Hong Kong on 30 May

                1997.

 

 

 

 

 

            Adult education institutions' refer to courses in Government evening institutes, the Evening School of Higher Chinese Studies and various

                private schools offering a variety of subjects including commercial classes.
