In August, the production of main energy of industries above the designated size kept growth. Compared with July, the growth rate of raw coal and crude oil production accelarated, and that of natural gas production and power generation slowed down.

I. Raw Coal, Crude Oil and Natural Gas Production and Relevant Information

The growth rate of crude coal production increased slightly, and that of the import maintained rapid growth. In August, 380 million tons of raw coal were produced, up by 2.0 percent, a growth rate of 1.9 percentage points faster than that of the previous month, with an average daily output of 12.33 million tons. The import of coal was 44.33 million tons, up by 50.5 percent year on year, a growth rate of 16.7 percentage points slower than that of the previous month.

From January to August, 3.05 billion tons of raw coal were produced, up by 3.4 percent year on year. The import of coal was 310 million tons, up by 82.0 percent year on year.

The growth rate of the production and the import of crude oil both accelerated. In August, 17.47 million tons of crude oil were produced, up by 3.1 percent year on year, a growth rate of 2.1 percentage points faster than that of the previous month, with an average daily output of 564,000 tons. The import of crude oil was 52.80 million tons, up by 30.9 percent year on year, a growth rate of 13.8 percentage points faster than that of the previous month.

From January to August, 139.85 million tons of crude oil were produced, up by 2.1 percent year on year. The import of crude oil was 378.55 million tons, up by 14.7 percent year on year.

The growth rate of crude oil processing capacity continued to accelerate. In August, 64.69 million tons of crude oil were processed, up by 19.6 percent year on year, a growth rate of 2.2 percentage points faster than that of the previous month, with an average daily processing capacity of 2.087 million tons. From January to August, 491.40 million tons of crude oil were processed, up by 11.9 percent year on year.

The growth rate of natural gas production increased steadily, and the import continued to grow rapidly. In August, 18.1 billion cubic meters of natural gas were produced, up by 6.3 percent year on year, a growth rate of 1.3 percentage points slower than that of the previous month, with an average daily output of 580 million cubic meters. The import of natural gas was 10.86 million tons, up by 22.7 percent year on year, a growth rate of 3.8 percentage points faster than that of the previous month.

From January to August, 152.1 billion cubic meters of natural gas were produced, up by 5.7 percent year on year. The import of natural gas was 77.71 million tons, up by 9.4 percent year on year.

II. Power Generation

The power generation enjoys steady growth. In August, the power generation was 845.0 billion kWh, up by 1.1 percent year on year, a growth rate of 2.5 percentage points slower than that of the previous month, with an average daily power generation of 27.26 billion kWh. From January to August, the power generation was 5.8663 trillion kWh, up by 3.6 percent year on year.

From the perspective of energy sources, in August, the growth rate of thermal power and wind power generation changed from increasing to decreasing, that of nuclear power and solar power generation accelerated, and that of hydropower generation changed from decreasing to increasing. Among them, the growth rate of thermal power generation decreased by 2.2 percent year on year and increased by 7.2 percent last month; that of hydropower generation increased by 18.5 percent and decreased by 17.5 percent last month; that of nuclear power generation increased by 5.5 percent, 2.6 percentage points faster than the previous month; that of wind power generation decreased by 11.5 percent and increased by 25.0 percent last month; that of solar power generation increased by 13.9 percent, 7.5 percentage points faster than the previous month.

Annotations:

1. Explanatory Notes

Average daily product output: It is calculated by dividing the total output of Industrial Enterprises above the designated size announced in that month by the calendar days of that month.

2. Statistical Coverage

The statistical caliber of the output data in the report is above the designated size of industry, and the statistical scope is industrial enterprises with annual main business income of more than 20 million yuan.

Because the scope of industrial enterprises above the designated size changes every year, in order to ensure that this year's data is comparable with the previous year's, the same period used to calculate the growth rate of various indicators such as product output is consistent with the statistical scope of enterprises in this period, and there is a caliber difference between the data released this year and last year.

3. Data Source

Import data comes from the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China, of which August data are express data.

4. Conversion relationship of natural gas units: 1 ton is equal to 1,380 cubic meters.
