All tasks of China's the First National Economic Census have been satisfactorily completed. National Bureau of Statistics of (NBS) re-accounted the GDP of 2004 using the Census data, and released results on December 20, 2005. In order to maintained historical comparability of GDP data, NBS has revised historical GDP data of certain years before 2004, presently announces as follows:

I. Explanation of revised historical data of GDP

I) Period of revision

The Economic Census reflected changes of GDP data were accumulation results over years. Therefore, we need to revise the historical data of preceding years before the Economic Census. Considered that 93% of GDP data came out from Economic Census of 2004 were from tertiary industry, as compared with a rise of 2.3 trillion yuan of national accounts of Annual Report; moreover, after the First National Tertiary Industry Census of 1992, we had revised the historical data of GDP from 1978 to 1992, hence, revised period of this time has ascertained from 1993 to 2003.

II) Method of Revision

The Revision chose an internationally common used method called Trend Deviation method. The basic methods follow by: first, utilizing national account data of 1992 and Annual Report of 2004 to calculate the trend value; Secondly, utilized national account data of 1992 and data of 2004 Economic Census to worked out newly trend value of historical data; Thirdly, worked out the proportion modulus of inhered historical data trend values and actual values from 1993 to 2003; Fourthly, utilized the above proportion modulus to adjusted the historical trend value, to obtain the revised value of historical data.

II. Results of revised historical data of national GDP

According to the revised GDP data, the average growth rate of annually GDP was 9.6% from 1979 to 2004, a rise of 0.2 percentage points as compared with former national account data.
