Kang Yi, Commissioner of the NBS of China Visited Statistics Indonesia and Signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Statistical Cooperation

At the invitation of Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, Director of Statistics Indonesia, Kang Yi, Commissioner of the National Bureau of Statistics of China(NBS of China) and his delegation visited the Statistics Indonesia on December 5-6, with the aim to promote the deepening of cooperation and exchanges between the statistical agencies of the two sides.

 

 

On December 6, the Statistics Indonesia held a signing ceremony of Memorandum of Understanding(MOU). The ceremony started with the solemn national anthems of the People’s Republic of China and Indonesia, at which Kang Yi and Widyasanti signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Statistical Cooperation between the National Bureau of Statistics of China and Statistics Indonesia in the presence of diplomats from both countries. The two sides agreed to carry out exchanges and cooperation in terms of strengthening high-quality official statistics, exchanging publicly available statistical information, supporting modernization and statistical transformation, reinforcing human resources capacity-building and facilitating the application of big data and data science in official statistics.

 

Kang Yi pointed out that the signing of the MOU is a practical initiative to implement the cooperation plan under the framework of the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative and the Global Maritime Fulcrum concept by two governments, which will be bound to vigorously promote the statistical cooperation between the two countries to a new level. He hoped that mutual learning would be further deepened, and practical and effective cooperation would be carried out under the framework of the MOU. Also conducted will be regular exchanges on areas of common concern, in a bid to facilitate knowledge and experience sharing, and enhance statistical capacity. Widyasanti said that the signing of the MOU is the result of the concerted efforts of the two sides, contributing to the modernization of statistics and the improvement of the quality and effectiveness of official statistics.

 

 

During his visit, Kang Yi also met with Imam Machdi, the Deputy Director of Statistics Indonesia and other officials. Besides, he visited the Institute of Statistics Polytechnic, Statistics Indonesia and the Statistics Office of Special Capital Region of Jakarta to exchange views on and discuss issues such as the implementation plan of the MOU, the application of big data in official statistics, economic census, the cooperation between the hubs of the United Nations Global Platform on big data and data science in China and in Indonesia, as well as the statistical systems of the two sides.
