On the afternoon of September 24, Mr. Ma Jiantang, Commissioner of the NBS, met with Mr. Peter Morrison, Assistant Chief Statistician of Canada, and the delegation of the Statistics Canada’s Overall Business Framework Project led by him.

Mr. Ma reviewed and spoke highly of the history of the friendly relations and cooperation between the NBS of China and the Statistics Canada. Mr. Ma pointed out that the Sino-Canada statistical cooperation is the most successful international statistical cooperation, the two phases of cooperation projects having been carried out between the NBS and the Statistics Canada as well as their results, especially the smooth implementation of the Sino-Canada Household Survey Project, has positive reference meaning to China’s statistical work.

Mr. Ma believed that the development of new statistical technologies, especially the emergence of big data, had put forward new opportunities and challenges to statistical methods and statistical business processes, as well as work organization system. The Overall Business Framework Cooperation Project carried out by the NBS and the Statistics Canada was meant to jointly study how to reform the statistical production processes to adapt to different changes and demands, in situations of the development of new technologies and big data. The NBS is looking forward to the fruits of a new phase of cooperation.

Previously, Mr. Li Qiang, Deputy Commissioner of the NBS, had met with Mr. Morrison and the delegation, and discussed the implementation of the project together with the delegation.
