China-IMF Jointly held Training Programme in Dalian

China-International Monetary Fund (IMF) Held A Training Programme on “Using Macro Economic Statistics to Undertake Policy Analysis and Decision-Making” in Dalian

National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) and International Monetary Fund (IMF) Jointly held training programme on “Using Macro Economic Statistics to Undertake Policy Analysis and Decision-Making” in Dalian from  24 to 26 January2005. Ms. Carson, NBS’s International Statistical Advisor, and former Director of Statistical Department of International Monetary Fund (IMF), Mr. Pellechio, Senior Economist of IMF, Ms. He Qi and Mr. Feng Nailin, Director-general of Department of International Cooperation of NBS attended the training lecture. Mr. Wan Donghua, Deputy Director-General of Department of Comprehensive Statistics of NBS presided the training lecture.

During the training lecture, the foreign experts introduced some relevant information of using macro economic statistics to undertake the policy analysis and decision-makings, the main activities include: 1. Follow the international standard to undertake the macro economic statistics – the foundation of policy analysis and decision-making; 2. GDP: the core of macro economic statistics; 3. Using GDP estimation to undertake the policy analysis and decision-making: the estimation of value-added tax revenue; 4. Finance, monetary and statistics of external departments’ influences to the policy analysis and decision-making; 5. The existing problems of using macro economic statistics to undertake policy analysis and decision-making in the world.

In the training lecture, the representatives from National Bureau of Statistics, Ministry of Finance, People’s Bank of China and State Administration of Foreign Exchange made speeches on the challenges and developments of China macro economic statistics, in point of views on practice department, finance, and foreign exchange statistics aspects separately.

During the training, trainees attended lecture earnestly, discussed zealously, spoke eagerly, and have a broad communication and discussion on how to use macro economic statistics data to undertake the policy analysis and decision-making with the foreign experts. From this training lecture, trainees were widened outlook, learned more knowledge, increased understandabilities on consistency and harmony of main macro economic indicators, and deepened the recognition on macro economy statistics frame simultaneity.

About 52 backbones from 31 Divisions of Comprehensive Statistics of Provincial (Autonomous, Municipal) Bureau of Statistics, National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Finance, People’s Bank of China, State Administration of Foreign Exchange, and a few of departments and organizations of National Bureau of Statistics have attended the training lecture.
