30. This part of the seminar was devoted to the presentation of the main analyses of the census results in terms of an improved, more accurate, more reliable picture of the Chinese rural and agricultural sector. The analyses had the aim of highlighting the new picture of Chinese agriculture coming from the census: the production farm structure and factor ratios, with particular reference to land use and rural farm and non-farm employment; the provincial differences and disparities and labor migrations; the importance of the rural non-agricultural industries; and the role of the women in Chinese agriculture. The analyses also aimed to compare pre-census and post-census views on Chinese agriculture, both from a domestic and an international perspective, and to point out the influence of the agricultural census results on the development plans in PRC. Having in mind the importance of the agricultural sector in PRC, particular emphasis was also devoted to the impact of the Chinese census results on the world economy and to international comparisons. Altogether, eight sessions were devoted to this part of the seminar, and 26 papers were presented.
