Based on the results of the Fourth National Economic Census, the major data of scientific research and technical services, management of water conservancy, environment and public facilities, household services, maintenance and other services, education, health and social work, culture, sports and entertainment, and public management, social security and social organization in the tertiary industry are disseminated as the following:
I. Scientific Research and Technical Services
1. Number of Legal Entities and Persons Employed
At the end of 2018, there were 1.276 million legal entities engaged in scientific research and technical services with a total number of 11.829 million persons employed. Of this total, 1.195 million were corporate enterprises with a total employment of 10.290 million people, up by 246.2 percent and 70.6 percent respectively as compared with those at the end of 2013. (Table 5-1)

Of the total number of corporate enterprises engaged in scientific research and technical services, the proportion of domestic funded enterprises was 98.8 percent, enterprises funded by investors from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan 0.6 percent and foreign funded enterprises 0.6 percent.
Of the total number of persons employed, the proportion of those in domestic funded enterprises was 96.4 percent, that in enterprises funded by investors from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan 1.5 percent and that in foreign funded enterprises 2.1 percent. (Table 5-2)

2. Main Economic Indicators
At the end of 2018, the total assets of the corporate enterprises engaged in scientific research and technical services reached 15,212.40 billion yuan, up by 125.5 percent as compared with that at the end of 2013. The total liabilities were 8,196.70 billion yuan. The business revenue of the year reached 4,469.57 billion yuan. (Table 5-3)

II. Management of Water Conservancy, Environment and Public Facilities
1. Number of Legal Entities and Persons Employed
At the end of 2018, there were 149 thousand legal entities engaged in management of water conservancy, environment and public facilities with a total number of 3.532 million persons employed, up by 75.1 percent and 18.5 percent respectively as compared with those at the end of 2013. Of this total, 33 thousand were government agencies, institutions and non-corporate enterprises with a total employment of 1.138 million people, down by 16.1 percent and 32.6 percent respectively as compared with those at the end of 2013.
2. Main Economic Indicators
At the end of 2018, the total assets of the corporate enterprises engaged in management of water conservancy, environment and public facilities reached 16,661.72 billion yuan, up by 390.1 percent over the end of 2013. The total liabilities were 9,568.94 billion yuan. The business revenue of the year reached 1,006.65 billion yuan.
The total assets of government agencies, institutions and non-corporate enterprises at the end of year were 1,407.62 billion yuan, up by 78.6 percent over the end of 2013. The expenditure of the year was 418.12 billion yuan.
III. Household Services, Maintenance and Other Services
1. Number of Corporate Enterprises and Persons Employed
At the end of 2018, there were 479 thousand corporate enterprises engaged in household services, maintenance and other services with a total number of 4.148 million persons employed, up by 173.8 percent and 55.4 percent respectively as compared with those at the end of 2013. (Table 5-4)

Of the total number of corporate enterprises engaged in household services, maintenance and other services, the proportion of domestic funded enterprises was 99.7 percent, enterprises funded by investors from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan 0.2 percent and foreign funded enterprises 0.1 percent.
Of the total number of persons employed, the proportion of those in domestic funded enterprises was 97.4 percent, that in enterprises funded by investors from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan 1.7 percent and that in foreign funded enterprises 0.9 percent. (Table 5-5)

2. Main Economic Indicators
At the end of 2018, the total assets of the corporate enterprises engaged in household services, maintenance and other services reached 1,036.08 billion yuan, up by 30.6 percent as compared with that at the end of 2013. The total liabilities were 544.76 billion yuan. The business revenue of the year reached 683.23 billion yuan. (Table 5-6)

IV．Education
1. Number of Legal Entities and Persons Employed
At the end of 2018, there were 666 thousand legal entities engaged in education with a total number of 22.305 million persons employed, up by 60.8 percent and 16.5 percent respectively as compared with those at the end of 2013. Of this total, 377 thousand were government agencies, institutions and non-corporate enterprises with a total employment of 18.693 million people, up by 4.8 percent and 4.1 percent respectively as compared with those at the end of 2013.
2. Main Economic Indicators
At the end of 2018, the total assets of the corporate enterprises engaged in education reached 995.77 billion yuan, up by 221.6 percent over the end of 2013. The total liabilities were 520.37 billion yuan. The business revenue of the year reached 522.55 billion yuan.
The total assets of government agencies, institutions and non-corporate enterprises at the end of year were 8,610.51 billion yuan, up by 68.8 percent over the end of 2013. The expenditure of the year was 3,843.99 billion yuan.
V. Health and Social Work
1. Number of Legal Entities and Persons Employed
At the end of 2018, there were 273 thousand legal entities engaged in health and social work with a total number of 11.478 million persons employed, up by 9.0 percent and 25.1 percent respectively as compared with those at the end of 2013. Of this total, 170 thousand were government agencies, institutions and non-corporate enterprises, down by 22.6 percent over the end of 2013, and there were 9.169 million persons employed, up by 13.5 percent.
2. Main Economic Indicators
At the end of 2018, the total assets of the corporate enterprises engaged in health and social work reached 917.12 billion yuan, up by 157.4 percent over the end of 2013. The total liabilities were 541.25 billion yuan. The business revenue of the year reached 543.17 billion yuan.
The total assets of government agencies, institutions and non-corporate enterprises at the end of year were 4,674.63 billion yuan, up by 60.6 percent over the end of 2013. The expenditure of the year was 3,502.27 billion yuan.
VI. Culture, Sports and Entertainment
1. Number of Legal Entities and Persons Employed
At the end of 2018, there were 567 thousand legal entities engaged in culture, sports and entertainment with a total number of 4.198 million persons employed, up by 146.4 percent and 35.9 percent respectively as compared with those at the end of 2013. Of this total, 507 thousand were corporate enterprises with a total employment of 3.364 million people, up by 192.5 percent and 72.9 percent respectively as compared with those at the end of 2013.
2. Main Economic Indicators
At the end of 2018, the total assets of the corporate enterprises engaged in culture, sports and entertainment reached 3,418.75 billion yuan, up by 126.0 percent over the end of 2013. The total liabilities were 1,826.84 billion yuan. The business revenue of the year reached 1,071.88 billion yuan.
The total assets of government agencies, institutions and non-corporate enterprises at the end of year were 907.71 billion yuan, up by 31.8 percent over the end of 2013. The expenditure of the year was 271.54 billion yuan.
VII. Public Management, Social Security and Social Organization
At the end of 2018, there were 1.597 million legal entities engaged in public management, social security and social organization, up by 5.1 percent as compared with that at the end of 2013. There were 25.087 million persons employed, down by 7.4 percent. The expenditure of government agencies, institutions and non-corporate enterprises of the year was 12,022.69 billion yuan.
