Mr. Ma Jiantang Met with the Delegation of the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs of Sudan, Signed the MOU between the NBS and the CBS

On April 10, Mr. Ma Jiantang, Commissioner of the NBS, met with Mr. Ahmed Omar, Minister of Cabinet Affairs of Sudan, and the delegation of the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs of Sudan, led by him. The two sides had a friendly conversation, signed the memorandum of understanding between the NBS and the Central Bureau of Statistics of Sudan (CBS), and agreed to carry out exchanges and cooperation in strengthening institution-building, personnel training, technical assistance and other aspects.

 

 

Mr. Ma welcomed Mr. Omer to lead a delegation to visit the NBS again since last year. Mr. Ma pointed out that since Mr. Omer’s visit in last April, the NBS and the CBS had strengthened exchanges and cooperation, and carried out a series of activities: Dr. Yasin Elhag Abdin, Director General of the CBS visited China, statisticians of Sudan participated in statistical training in China on invitation under the framework of the China and United Nations Trust Fund, the Evaluation Commission of the NBS headed for Sudan to study and evaluate the statistical system of Sudanese government, the NBS and the CBS both discussed the prospects of the two sides’ statistical cooperation with related departments.

 

Mr. Ma pointed out that the NBS of China can provide supports for Sudan’s statistical work in three ways in the future: First, the Evaluation Commission of the NBS provides opinions and suggestions as needed on improving the statistical system of Sudanese government, based on early assessment work; second, the NBS provides consultation and advices in the area of statistical surveys, such as population census, agriculture census, economic census, labor force survey, price survey, etc; third, making use of the existing platforms, the NBS continues to provide personnel training under the framework of the China and United Nations Trust Fund. Mr. Ma hoped that both sides work together to insert statistical cooperation into the China-Africa overall cooperation, and increase investment in statistical infrastructure, information construction and personnel training of Sudan.

 

Mr. Omer was deeply satisfied with the progress of the statistical cooperation of the NBS and the CBS in the past year, and spoke highly of the assessment on Sudan’s statistical system which was developed by the Evaluation Commission of the NBS in March this year. Mr. Omer said that as the minister in charge of the CBS, he was very pleased to sign the Memorandum of Understanding on behalf of the Sudan side. He hoped that the statistical cooperation of the NBS and the CBS can set an example for other African countries, as an example of cooperation between China and Africa.

 

Mr. Abdelgadir Abdalla M D, Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Sudan, Dr. Omer Mohamed Salih, Secretary General of the Cabinet, Dr. Kabashore Kuku Gimbil Azrag, Director General of National Records Office, Mr. Abdalla Hassan Eisa Bushara, Director General of SSMO attended the meeting. Messrs. Xian Zude, Chief Methodologist of the NBS, Du Weiqun, Director-General of Department of International Cooperation, Xu Xiaohai, Director-General of Department of Policies and Legislation, Liu Fujiang, Director-General of Department of Statistical Design and Management, Feng Nailin, Director-General of Department of Population and Employment Statistics, Song Yuezheng, Director-General of Department of Rural Surveys, Zhang Jun, Deputy Director-General of Department of International Cooperation, and Ms. An Yuhuan, Deputy Director-General of Statistics Education and Training Centre were present.
