Mr. Ma Jiantang met with the ICP Joint Delegation of WB & ADB

On October 10, Mr. Ma Jiantang, Commissioner of NBS, met with the Joint Delegation of International Comparison Program (ICP) of the World Bank (WB) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB), headed by Mr. Zhuang Juzhong, Assistant Chief Economist of Asian Development Bank, and Mr. Michel Mouyelo-Katoula, ICP Global Manager. Mr. Xu Xianchun, Deputy Commissioner of NBS attended the meeting.

Mr. Ma Jiantang expressed thanks to the WB and the ADB for the their lasting supports and assistances to China’s statistical work, and welcomes to the delegation’s visit to China for examining the status of implementation of ICP in China.

Mr. Ma Jiantang pointed out that the Chinese government and NBS attached great importance to the work of 2011 round ICP, and put in a lot of manpower, material and financial resources. Leading groups and their offices of all levels of ICP work developed implementation plans scientifically, organized the investigations seriously and orderly, verified survey data strictly, and participated actively in global and Asia-Pacific regional work conferences and data verification. ICP has made important initial results in China, and the price data obtained by survey reflected the actual situation in China. China creatively established photo gallery and database of standard products, saved the collecting localities, specifications and models, as well as sales price levels of standard products in detail, to ensure that the price data were real, objective and credible.

Mr. Ma Jiantang said that NBS would continue to cooperate with global and Asia-Pacific regional ICP work arrangements with an open attitude. He stressed that, NBS would continue to be in accordance with the requirements strictly, do a good job of the follow-up work from beginning to end, assist ADB to verify the data of countries in Asia-Pacific region at the same time, and make contributions to the smooth implementation and successful completion of 2011 round ICP.

Mr. Zhuang Juzhong fully affirmed the remarkable results achieved by NBS in implementing ICP, appreciated the useful attempts that China established photo gallery and database of ICP, and thought that this would contribute to the implementation of the next round of ICP.

The two sides also exchanged views on the project survey data submitted by China and the current economic situation in China.

Other members of the WB-ADB Joint Delegation were Mr. Yuri Dikhanov, Senior Economist of WB, Ms. Chellam Palanyandy, ICP Regional Coordinator for Asia and the Pacific, and Ms. Eileen Capilit, ICP Project Specialist for Asia and the Pacific.

Mr. Du Weiqun, Director-General of Department of International Cooperation, Mr. Pang Xiaolin, Director-General of Department of Urban Surveys, and Mr. Zhao Yuncheng, Director-General of International Statistical Information Center of NBS were present.
