Chinese Delegation Headed by Mr. Ma Jiantang Visited Germany and Italy and Signed Statistical Cooperation Documentations

Invited by Mr. Roderich Egeler, the President of the Federal Statistical Office of Germany (FSO), and Mr Enrico Giovannini, the President of Italian National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT), Mr. Ma Jiantang, Commissioner of the NBS, led a delegation to visit Germany and Italy from August 27 to September 4, and signed the letter of intent of Sino-German statistical cooperation with FSO, as well as the memorandum of understanding of Sino-Italy statistical cooperation with ISTAT.

During the visit in Germany, Mr. Egeler and other officials introduced the characteristics and coordination mechanism of German statistical system, the status, challenges and solutions of statistical work, the quality control procedures and measures during the statistical production, the price statistics and so on to the NBS delegation. Dr Carmina Brenner, the President of Baden-Württemberg Land Statistical Office of Germany, introduced the role of German Land Statistical Office in the federal statistical system, and the specific operational procedures of the data collection of consumer prices. Messrs. Ma Jiantang and Egeler spoke highly of the fruitful exchanges and cooperation between the FSO and the NBS in the past twenty years, agreed to further deepen the cooperation between two sides, discussed to make greater influences together in the international statistical community, and signed the letter of intent of Sino-German statistical cooperation.

During the visit in Italy, Mr. Ma Jiantang delivered a speech entitled Status, Opportunities, Challenges and Future of China’s statistics to ISTAT staff. Mr. Giovannini and other staff introduced the development strategy of Italian official statistics, the statistical work of consumer prices, housing prices and producer prices, as well as the construction of database and metabase to the delegation. ISTAT made an introduction in depth of making full use of modern information technology and achieving high-quality and user-friendly data release, which left a deep impression to the delegation. Messrs Ma Jiantang and Giovannini signed the memorandum of understanding of Sino-Italy statistical cooperation, and agreed to take the fixed asset investment statistics, housing price statistics, statistical websites construction, on-line reporting, and the utilization of big data, etc., as the focus of Sino-Italy cooperation in the near future.
